Diederich Farm LLC We are a family owned and operated dairy farm that just wants to entertain and educate about daily dairy farm activities.

We are a family owned dairy farm that has 540 cows as well as the accompanying youngstock. We grow most of the feed that our animals eat on just under 1000 acres that we own or rent. We pride ourselves on our environmental stewardship, community involvement, use of technology and superb animal welfare.

Happy Easter from Diederich Farm. Cows are still getting fed, cows still get milked and the milk hauler still comes and picks up milk. We'll all spend time with family at different points in the day. We are having a great one and hope you do as well

Something that goes without thought on "snow days" like this is that there are parts of the economy that never stop. Yes many farms work 365 days a year. There are living things that depend on us to feed them. But it goes beyond the farm. Our milk truck driver worked until 11 last night to haul loads. When he got here last night after 11 PM, he parked in our driveway and slept in his truck to ensure he could load us out in the morning. 5:30 AM he was pumping milk. He'll leave our farm and head to a dairy plant that will have a crew at it to receive the milk. There's no such thing as snow days for some.

As stated earlier this summer, our cows have access to the pasture all summer. However, we've spent a lot of time, money and energy as an industry to figure out how to care for cows in a way they prefer. Today, as is normal this summer, there are no cows outside. Our waterbeds are comfortable and our cross ventilated barn has a strong consistent breeze to keep the cows cool. The cows have the choice and they choose our barn. We are happy to give them the choice and glad they are happy in our barn. Once the sun goes down and it drops 15 degrees outside, some will hang out in the pasture for a while but ultimately the cows will choose to spend most of their time inside, not unlike their human caretakers.

When it is going to rain or snow we make sure to turn WITMAN off and cover him. This makes sure they stay in decent condition and the blower life is extended.
