First night of the cattle back on pasture, the latest that we've put them on yet! Hoping for better weight gain because of more fibrous grass and the older grass seeds the pasture... also farm has been producing alot of hay and we need to clean out the pantry/barn.

Leading the cattle to eat 4th cutting of hay we didn't bale. Let the animals do the work. We didn't spend the money to bale the hay and store it. They eat and fertilize at the same time. Spent last week training them how to get here through the pastures. Furthest field away from the barn

Farming / Ranching in the world we live in has become a chore. We always want the cattle to be fed outside everyday of the year for the purpose of them spreading their own fertilizer. With climate change and weather, we have to have back up plans from A to Z. This winter has been an especially challenging one from the record warmth, dealing with mud, getting equipment stuck, to once again negative zero temperatures. Tonight we brought the cattle back into the barn. Fed 45+/- cattle by hand in under 15 minutes. We don't need to start machine's. Pretty cool! It's what the old Ballers used to do!

It's been quite some time since we have posted anything. We have been on a race against the calender to complete multiple projects before winter. This picture shows the cattle still on green pasture/hayfield. We didn't take a 4th cutting and left it as a "piggy bank" for feed and at the same time spreading fertilizer for next year's crop. What I like most about this picture is how far the cattle are spread out. My city born farmers wife tells me that's because the cattle are happy and content. How can you argue with that.

Dekalb County Community Gardens is an inspiring group. We have donated different things over time either Meat or Compost. Everytime there are volunteers there giving their time, which is the most precious thing there is to give. We feel fortunate to be in a place to help. Would just like to recognize the boots on the ground and say thanks to the hardworking people feeding our neighbors!!!

We know it's hard to make ends meet. On , we'll be sharing groceries with neighbors in Sandwich, Genoa and DeKalb (see below for details).

All food distributions are free and open to all who come while supplies last.
