The Detroit River was anything but calm as powerful winds whipped up the water and transformed the river into a dramatic display of nature’s strength. Days like this remind us that the river is always changing sometimes peaceful, sometimes powerful, but always beautiful.

Friendly reminder from the farm… it’s tick season again.
(But honestly… when isn’t it in Michigan)

As you’re out in the yard, garden, or fields, here are a few things to keep in mind:

• Check yourself (and the kids) after being outside
• Don’t forget your pets, they bring them in fast
• Watch ankles, waistlines, and behind the knees
• Ticks love tall grass, brush, and shady spots
• Showering after being outside can help catch them early

Around here, we also use a homemade tick spray just in case.. simple, natural, and gives a little extra peace of mind.

Farm life is beautiful… but it definitely keeps you on your toes

This morning on the Detroit River
I went down to check out the ice almost a solid sheet from shore to shore. The river’s wearing its winter armor, but it’s still moving. No ice jams yet… those usually show up down by Fighting Island when the conditions are just right.

Three degrees, quiet except for the slow push of the current. Cold enough to bite, but the river keeps doing what it’s always done flowing steady and stubborn.
