Navy Bean check-in! The plants have seed pods filled with beans and are looking great and still growing.
You'll notice that these deceivingly-named beans are actually a light, creamy color. That's because they're actually named for historically being a staple food in the diets of U.S. Navy sailors, who relied on them as a good source of protein with a long shelf life. While navy beans were primarily used for soup, they're also the bean traditionally used in baked beans. On ships, baked beans would not only be served on their own, but also made into sandwiches to utilize the leftovers. The more you know!
Once they are ready, we plan to test and post some recipes using these nutritious & delicious beans!

We just restocked A&A's Little Red Shed Farm Market and Bakery with popcorn kernels, perfect for your stovetop or air popping needs! They also still have a few packs of our Mini Ears, which pop off the cob in the microwave into a single serving 🍿
Stop by and check them out - besides popcorn, they have lots of local meat, Mooville products including ice cream, and fresh baked goods on the weekends!

The popcorn is really coming along! Ears are formed but still have quite a bit of growing to do. They look like they've pollinated well overall, which is encouraging. Once they finish growing, we'll let them dry in the field as long as we can.

Good news!!! As of Friday, we're in our first Mattawan area store: Mattawan Landscaping Supply!
Visit them to stock up on popcorn and shop all your landscaping needs - we may or may not have been eyeing their outdoor kitchen display during the popcorn drop off...

When one of your customers says they're going through 1 lb bags too fast, you order some bigger packaging and custom-make them a 10 lb bag!
While we don't have these widely available for 2026, next year we'll have bulk bags as part of our regular offerings. We plan to offer 10 lb bags for bigger families (or serious popcorn lovers) and 35 lb bags for businesses and events!

We were excited to see some of our Popping Ears and Mini Ears as part of Sommerfeldt Farms display at the Glad Peach Festival this weekend! If you missed them, make sure to stop by and see them at their regular location on Benton Center road. They have a great variety of local fruits, veggies, and more!

We had a great time today visiting the new Farmstead by Jake's Country Meats. Opened this week on the south side of Dowagiac, it has all the staples of their well-known Meat Shed and more, including our popcorn! We stocked up on meats, cheeses, and milk, and of course had to try some of the ice cream from Plainwell Ice Cream Co. Everything was delicious and although not pictured here, they even have house-made waffle cones which were especially good!

The popcorn is getting even taller and ears are starting to develop nicely! Fun fact: while a lot of popcorn plants just grow one ear, many actually grow two - a larger, primary ear and a smaller, secondary one. This is what inspired us to sell both Mini Ears and full sized Popping Ears. The smaller Mini Ears pop into the perfect single serving!
This fall, we'll handpick as many ears as we can. These will naturally dry on the cob for several months before being sorted, cleaned, and packaged. The rest of the field will be picked for kernels!

Our Mini Ears (featured in this popping video) make a full serving of popcorn, and our full size Popping Ears make enough to share. You can pop them alone in the provided microwave bag, or for an even better pop and more flavor, add some butter! About two minutes is the perfect setting for these in our microwave, but cook time can differ between machines. A good rule of thumb is to remove as soon as popping slows.

The Berkshire piglets attempt in vain to avoid fly spray and ear scratches (torture!) by hiding in the corner.
Food, however, is welcomed and appreciated...
