The corn is growing quick now over shoulder high and tassling out. At this height the ears are already growing on the stalks. The exact number of kernels possible is already determined. If you look closely at the picture you can see the kernels all the way to the tip. Each one of those kernels has a silk attached that sticks out the end of the ear. Now the tassles have to pollinate each of those silks to pollinate each kernel. If that is not done properly then you end up with patchy corn. Let's face it, Noone wants that.

The corn is really getting close to tasseling. For those of you that don't know, tassels are these things inside the corn stalk. As the corn grows they open up and release pollon onto the silks at the end of each ear of corn. The silks are those stringy things you try to remove when you eat it. Each and everyone of those silk strings are connected to an individual kernel of corn. Each and everyone must be pollinated by the tassels. Also at this stage, you can disect a plant and find the individual ears of corn with the set number of rows of kernels already determined.

For 4 months old, this batch of calves this year are truly impressive. Yes, that is his mom in the picture. This is what happens when you focus on top of the line genetics for your herd. This is one of the reasons I choose to use ai (artificial insemination) i can get the exact characteristics that are desired while eliminating those that are less desired
