Chip Holton x Rambo of Jim’s Produce
Long before he picked up a brush to paint a rooster named Rambo, Chip Holton had already earned a reputation as one of the South's most accomplished fine artists. Celebrated for his masterful realism, rich storytelling, and extraordinary ability to elevate ordinary moments into enduring works of art, Holton's paintings grace prestigious collections, luxury hotels, acclaimed restaurants, historic properties, and distinguished private estates. Coveted by collectors, some of his originals have sold for as much as $300,000. When Holton chooses a subject, it’s because the story behind it deserves to be preserved.
Holton’s newest tribute captures Rambo, the locally world famous rooster of Jim’s Produce in Deep Gap, NC, owned by the Pro in Produce, Jim Welch. A bird as iconic as the mountains themselves, that quickly became a social media favorite. In the painting, Rambo stands proud in all his attitude and glory, with the Welch family barn rising behind him, grounding the scene in the heritage of the High Country.
He also honored another workhorse of the Welch Legacy: Jim’s all original, almost 600,000‑mile, Chevy Duramax. The truck that hauled produce and cattle through the mountains for 20 of his 30 years in business, while feeding locals, supplying tourists and keeping the High Country stocked every season - A rolling symbol of grit, loyalty, and community.
