As someone involved in poultry rescue, animal husbandry, and local farming communities here in Oregon... I think people need to slow down and REALLY research Oregon IP28 before signing or voting based only on emotional slogans.
I care deeply about animal welfare. That is literally why Rooster Ready exists.
But Iām also genuinely concerned about how broadly this proposal could impact local farms, homesteads, breeders, rescues, veterinarians, hunting, fishing, livestock owners, and even small backyard poultry keepers.
The proposed initiative removes many current exemptions in Oregon animal cruelty laws involving agriculture, hunting, fishing, breeding, pest control, and standard animal husbandry practices.

Multiple agricultural, hunting, and livestock organizations are raising concerns that the wording could impact:
⢠farming
⢠breeding
⢠veterinary reproductive care
⢠fishing
⢠hunting
⢠pest management
⢠food production
⢠animal rescues and transport situations
Even many people online who support animal welfare are questioning whether the wording goes too far once they actually read it.
At Rooster Ready, we work every day with the REALITY of animal overpopulation, unwanted roosters, medical care, biosecurity, rehabilitation, humane placement, and difficult husbandry decisions. These issues are far more complicated in real life than they appear on a slogan or petition clipboard.
No matter what side you stand on politically...
please read the actual language yourself.
Oregon deserves informed voters, thoughtful conversations, and realistic solutions that protect BOTH animal welfare and the people responsibly caring for them every single day.
