Weekly Royal Update from the Duncan Homestead. Sir Augustus has almost officially completed his first full week of adventures, and wow, what a reign it’s been. Work visits, new fans, grandpa snuggles on demand. His Royal Cuteness is thriving. Meanwhile, Princess Olive, ever dignified, remains less than impressed with her new subject, but has graciously chosen silent judgment over mutiny. Progress.

Gus, of course, is blissfully unconcerned, making friends and assumes this is exactly how life is supposed to be. Stay tuned, his reign is just beginning.”

As the sun sets over Duncan Homestead tonight, our hearts are a little heavier.

We are keeping every family, ranch, farm, and first responder in our prayers as the wildfires continue to impact the Spokane area. We especially lift up the animals who don’t understand why they suddenly had to leave the only home they’ve ever known.

Tonight, the Homestead has a few extra faces tucked in safely—animals that needed a place to go while their families focus on protecting what matters most. We’re grateful we could open our gates, even in a small way.

To everyone affected: know that your community is standing with you. We are praying for rain, for safety, for strength, and for the day every family and every animal can return home.

As for Princess Olive…

Her Royal Highness has made it abundantly clear that she is still first in line to the throne. Reports indicate she has requested a full review of this new “prince,” questioned who approved his arrival without her royal signature, and is currently deciding whether to welcome Sir Augustus… or remind him exactly who has ruled Duncan Homestead all these years. Her legendary side-eye alone could command an entire kingdom. 👀😂

One thing is certain…

This little guy may have four tiny paws, but he’s already made a giant impression on our family.

Welcome home, Sir Augustus.

May your food bowl always be full, your zoomies be legendary, your naps uninterrupted, and your reign alongside Princess Olive be long, spoiled, and full of adventure.

Homestead Alert! Tomorrow is the day! 🚨

After what feels like an eternity of waiting, Sir Augustus of the Duncan Homestead (better known as Gus) officially arrives tomorrow! 🐾👑

The welcome committee is… well… preparing in their own special ways.

🐶 Olive has been informed that a tiny bulldog prince will be joining the family. Her official response so far has been:
“Excuse me… another one? Was this discussed with me?”

We’re predicting one of the following:
😂 Olive adopts Gus within 10 minutes and becomes his bodyguard.
🙄 Olive gives us the classic side-eye and pretends he doesn’t exist for three days.
🐾 Gus follows Olive everywhere like she’s the Queen of the Homestead… while Olive silently questions all of her life choices.

Either way, we’re pretty sure Gus is about to discover that life at Duncan Homestead means cows, chickens, chaos, and more love than he knows what to do with.

Stay tuned tomorrow as we officially welcome Sir Augustus of the Duncan Homestead! We have a feeling this little guy is going to steal a whole lot of hearts… even if Olive makes him earn it first. ❤️🐾

While he’s already stolen our hearts, Gus officially comes home this Friday! We can hardly wait to welcome this handsome little gentleman to the homestead.

With his irresistible wrinkles, squishy face, and charming personality, we’re pretty sure he’ll settle right into his new role as Chief Cuddle Officer. While the Highlands rule the pasture and our livestock guardians keep watch over the herd, Gus will be making sure there’s never a shortage of snuggles—or smiles.

We can’t wait to introduce him to the rest of the Duncan Homestead crew and share all of his adventures with you.

The countdown is on… only a few more days until Sir Augustus officially comes home! ❤️

Our sister company is hard at work creating projects.

🎄✨One of my favorite parts of creating is watching a simple idea slowly transform into something special. This Santa started as a cabinet door, and with a little imagination, paint, and a whole lot of Christmas spirit, it’s becoming a one-of-a-kind piece of holiday décor.

It’s not quite finished yet, but I couldn’t resist sharing a progress update with all of you. Thank you for following along on this creative journey—I can’t wait to show you the finished piece! 🎄 ✨

🐂 Duncan Homestead Fun Facts: Breeding Season Edition 🐄

Breeding season may not be as exciting as calving season, but it’s where every future calf begins!

🌾 A healthy bull can breed 25–40 cows during a typical breeding season (sometimes more, depending on age and condition).

🐮 Cows come into heat about every 21 days if they aren’t pregnant, and they’re only receptive for about 12–18 hours.

👃 Bulls use their incredible sense of smell to detect cows in heat—it’s one of the reasons you’ll often see them constantly checking the herd.

💪 Bulls can lose a surprising amount of weight during breeding season because they’re much more focused on the ladies than on eating!

🤰 A cow’s pregnancy lasts an average of 283 days, so the work happening now determines next spring’s calf crop.

🌱 A defined breeding season keeps calving grouped together, making it easier to monitor moms and calves, vaccinate, and wean the herd.

Here at Duncan Homestead, breeding season officially kicks off next weekend! This year, we’ll be splitting the herd into two breeding groups, which means it’s Ragnar’s time to shine alongside Buckbeak. We’re excited to see what each bull brings to the next generation and are already dreaming about the calves we’ll be welcoming next spring.

🍓 Strawberry Season at Duncan Homestead 🍓

The sweet taste of summer has officially arrived at Duncan Homestead! The kitchen is busy, the canner is steaming, and the counters are covered in fresh-picked strawberries waiting to become something delicious.

This year’s strawberry harvest means jars of homemade jam lining the pantry shelves, sweet strawberry syrup ready for pancakes and ice cream, fresh-baked pies cooling on the counter, and of course, plenty of strawberry shortcake topped with whipped cream.

There’s something special about preserving a little bit of summer to enjoy during the cold winter months. From field to table, every jar and every dessert is made with a whole lot of love and a little bit of homestead magic.

Here’s to sticky fingers, full pantries, and making sweet memories one strawberry at a time! 🍓❤️
