🍓 Strawberry Season at Duncan Homestead 🍓

The sweet taste of summer has officially arrived at Duncan Homestead! The kitchen is busy, the canner is steaming, and the counters are covered in fresh-picked strawberries waiting to become something delicious.

This year’s strawberry harvest means jars of homemade jam lining the pantry shelves, sweet strawberry syrup ready for pancakes and ice cream, fresh-baked pies cooling on the counter, and of course, plenty of strawberry shortcake topped with whipped cream.

There’s something special about preserving a little bit of summer to enjoy during the cold winter months. From field to table, every jar and every dessert is made with a whole lot of love and a little bit of homestead magic.

Here’s to sticky fingers, full pantries, and making sweet memories one strawberry at a time! 🍓❤️

🌱 Duncan Homestead Canning Report – First Canning of the Season 🌱

The 2026 canning season is officially underway at Duncan Homestead!

Today, Rebecca and Sean kicked off the season by turning fresh rhubarb into homemade jam, while Sean’s mom lent a helping hand in the kitchen. There’s something special about family gathered around the kitchen island, stirring pots, filling jars, and preserving the flavors of the season.

Rebecca took the lead on the jam-making, carefully transforming the rhubarb into beautiful jars of homemade goodness. Sean and his mom handled the filling station, and together they kept the assembly line moving. Even Olive was standing by for quality control duties, just in case any samples accidentally hit the floor.

The result? Jar after jar of gorgeous rhubarb jam lined up and ready for the pantry—a sweet reminder that summer is on its way and harvest season has begun.

At Duncan Homestead, we believe the best memories are made in the kitchen, where traditions are carried on, stories are shared, and hard work turns into something delicious.

Today at Duncan Homestead, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country.

As a veteran family, Memorial Day holds a special place in our hearts. Freedom on the farm, laughter around the table, and the simple blessing of watching calves kick up their heels in the pasture all come at a cost many carried long before us.

Today we remember the fallen.
The heroes who never made it home.
May their sacrifice never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

Molly update 🤍

For the first time in a while, we’re finally starting to breathe a little easier around here.

Molly has now gone several days without Banamine while keeping a normal temperature, and we’re seeing more of her personality and energy come back each day. She’s grazing, chewing her cud, and spending more time acting like… well, Molly.

We’re still continuing treatment and keeping a close eye on her recovery, but this girl has sure been fighting hard.

Thank you all for the prayers, messages, and support through this one. 🤍

Quick Molly update 🤍

Molly’s temperature was near normal this morning, and one of the best signs yet… she was chewing her cud while we checked on her.

She’s still got a ways to go and we’re continuing treatment and monitoring closely, but we’re finally starting to see more consistent signs that she’s moving in the right direction.

This girl has sure been giving it her all.

🌸🐮 Happy Mother’s Day from the Mommas of Duncan Homestead 🐷🐶🐱🌸

Today we celebrate the real queens of the homestead… the moms who do it all.

The ones who guard their babies with a side-eye strong enough to stop a tractor.
The ones who demand snacks, privacy, and emotional support while giving birth in a muddy field at 2 AM.
The ones who somehow know the exact second a human sits down to relax.

From Luna throwing left hooks in the name of motherhood…
To Sarge acting tough while secretly obsessed with her babies…
To Chili keeping everyone on their toes…
To Ayra being the calm momma we all aspire to be…
And even Olive, who has never birthed a calf a day in her life but still supervises everyone from the heated blanket like middle management.

Motherhood at Duncan Homestead looks a little wild, a little muddy, occasionally loud, and usually covered in hay… but it is also full of fierce love, patience, sacrifice, and the kind of devotion only a momma understands. ❤️

To all the farm moms, bonus moms, grandmas, pet moms, and exhausted women keeping the world spinning — today we celebrate YOU.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Duncan Homestead 🌾💕

Molly is still very ill but we did get into the vet. She had what was expected of a uterine infection. Then to add insult to injury she also developed acute mastitis in her one right udder. Poor girl is loosing her hair and is just going through it. Molly needs our prayers to overcome this.

Molly update 🤍

We’re continuing to see some encouraging signs from Molly. She’s been more alert, getting up easier, and showing a better appetite—eating both grain and hay on her own.

Her temperature is still running a little elevated at times, so we’re not out of the woods yet, but overall she’s moving in the right direction.

We’re staying cautious, keeping a close eye on her, and taking it one step at a time.

It's been an interesting calving season for the homestead. Two cows having health issues, and one calf not finding where the milk bar was! I am so grateful for that we purchased the cattle shoot as it has been so much easier getting meds in and showing a dumb bull calf where he should be suckling!

Quick Molly update 🤍

Molly is continuing to show encouraging signs. Her temperature has stayed in a normal range (let’s hope tonight it stays that way), and she’s been getting up on her own, moving around more, and starting to eat a bit better.

She’s not quite back to herself yet, but we’re seeing more of her personality come through, and that’s a really good sign.

We’re staying cautious and continuing to keep a close eye on her as she works her way back.
