Community Discussion #4

This needs to be shared! For those that we are able to see that have shared the post.... you will be in a drawing for $500 cash on December 15; just in time for Christmas Day gift buying.

Once again this is happening this year!

We have received a tremendous amount of interest and are going to encourage all of you that are willing AND able to harvest additional deer to do so.... The secondary option that we have been discussing the last few years with the DNR is providing an opportunity to connect a venison consuming public with deer hunters who simply are not interested in killing more deer beyond what they are able to consume within their own family. Now you have a reason to do so! Help feed your neighbor!

WI Deer Donation Announcement

Each and every year, Deer's Locker leads the effort in the Wisconsin deer donation program. We provide a protein source for several food pantries throughout St Croix, Polk, and Dunn counties. In the last 5 years, we have processed an average of 84 deer and typically have provided close to 3200 pounds of ground venison each year. It is not uncommon that we outproduce what the pantries have for capacity.

Over the past few years, we have been discussing with the DNR on additional options for providing venison to the public.

Once again, we were notified by the DNR specialist, that it is legal for Deer's Locker to offer a legally harvested registered deer to the Wisconsin Deer Donation program or to be offered to the public consumer willing to cover the service charge of processing.

If you or someone you may know, desires to have venison in the freezer for this upcoming winter, have them message or give us a call to be placed on a waitlist. As we receive the donated deer this season, we will be offering both options throughout the year.

Cheers!

Stay encouraged!

Community Discussion #3

So far for 2026, we have made two decisions based on your input: Carcass Cooling Service, and "adding" the option of 1 pound and sliced to the summer sausage category.

Here is the topic for Community Discussion #3:

Community Discussion #2

It's evident by the response to the community discussion #1, that the "carcass cooling service" is welcomed and we look forward to the offering in this upcoming season.

Next, we have had discussion with a number of customers over the the years with respect to summer sausage packaging size and options. It was evident to us years ago when we took over that the 4 pound - 22 inch summer sausage package was not customer friendly; therefore, we made the change to a 2 pound - 11 inch product.

First:

I realize that a 1 pound is more favorable but does increase the handling and inventory cost....If we made the change to a 1 pound product, would you be willing to pay 1.00 more?

and second,

We have been asked to produce the summer sausage product in a "sandwich sliced" option, one pound packaging, vacuum sealed. Is this a product worth offering to all of you?

Please respond in the comments to both questions, thank you!

It's important to involve all of you in these discussions as this is why my family and I are here!

cheers!

Community Discussion #1:

Whether it's improving availability, timely return of product, or finding better ways to service hunters' needs, our focus has always been on solving the challenges faced by the wild game community.

Over the next several weeks, we'll be engaging with our community and sharing new ideas that have recently been brought to our attention.

One of the most common concerns is managing harvested deer during the warm temperatures of the early fall hunting season. To help protect the quality of your meat, we're introducing a "Carcass Cooling Service."

Service Details:

1. Fee for service is $12 per day
2. Maximum of 5 days of refrigerated storage
3. If a carcass is not picked up by the end of the fifth day, it will automatically be donated to the Wisconsin Deer Donation program.

Please note: this is service is only available each year until Nov 15th. It will NOT be allowed during the WI gun seasons.

We believe this service provides hunters with added flexibility while helping preserve the quality of their harvest during the warmest part of the season. We look forward to hearing your feedback as we continue developing services that better serve the hunting community.

Interested in your thoughts to this newly added service.

cheers!

Update:
The status of Deers Food Locker in Deer Park

This evening the Village of Deer Park voted down 2-1 (Randy Olson -No, Ralph Severson - Yes, John Severson - No) the amendment to allow meat processing to be added in the B-1 District

Some of you may ask, why is this happening?

For the past 60+ years, the Village of Deer Park has neglected the proper description for such business to operate in the B1 District.

Seven decades of negligence……think about that!

In addition, when the code was updated in 2021; it was once again overlooked.

Fast forward to 2025, we made significant improvements to our facilities and were looking to do more with an addition to the east of our building…. it was only then we were notified by the newly hired zoning administrator that our operational use was not allowable in the current zoning….. “sorry, but the good news is you are able to continue under the “grandfather” clause. And for that reason you cannot expand your business…..” OUCH!

“What are my options…..” ask the planning commission to amend the zoning in the B1 District to allow meat processing, have a public hearing, have a planing commission vote (5-0 in favor on April 21 2026) and then a decision by the village board (vote failed 2-1).

End Result, Deer’s Food Locker remains and will resume in the Fall of 2026, but with no ability to expand further. My family and I invested $350,000 of improvements into a dead end we had no idea existed.

Stay tuned.
