If I'm being honest I learned the hard way with stress that crept up on me, health issues developed and grief of losing those close to me.

What I know now is the farm is always here. I'm now prioritizing my health, physically and mentally

first thing, every day

It's not a badge of honor to put it off

And I'd be lying if I didn't say, if I get it out of the way I don't have to worry about where I fit it in later in the day.

The Washington Post recently featured the U.S. meat goat industry, highlighting growing consumer demand, stronger prices, and why more farmers are raising goats.

Those trends are real. But as I read the article, I kept coming back to one question:

If demand for goat meat has been growing for years, why hasn't U.S. production kept pace?

From my perspective, we've spent a lot of time talking about demand. The bigger conversation is what it actually takes to build a stronger domestic meat goat industry.

Processing. Marketing. Infrastructure. Education. Profitable farm businesses.

Those are the pieces that determine whether producers can respond to growing demand over the long term.

Come along to move the goat and sheep paddock, water tank and mineral. It's a hot one this week, so I want to make sure they have apple shade to keep comfortable.

Goat meat doesn’t often make its way into federal legislation, but a newly proposed bill would do just that.

The Home Market Restoration Act of 2026 would establish import quotas and increase tariffs on imported sheep and goat meat entering the United States.

While the legislation has not become law, it raises important questions for the U.S. goat meat industry.

Could it impact imported goat meat? What would it mean for domestic producers? And is the U.S. goat meat industry positioned to meet additional demand if imports decline?

Another county fair has come and gone. Our family had a great time. We are now on the backside of it tired, putting things away, and catching up on things around the farm and house that didn't get our attention last week.

Quick fair run down / 4-H projects ⬇️
- sheep show
- goat show & little kid goat show
- non-living projects: mechanical, sewing, clothing review, leatherwork, shooting sports

- working in 4-H and Farm Bureau food stands
- entering the open class foods competition the first time with my GF sourdough (reserve champion!!!!), GF sourdough biscuits (1st), and GF chocolate chip cookies (3rd).
- lots of iced coffee
- lots of midway time

Also squeezed in some farm work and managed to stay consistent with my strength training (30 min sessions may it so doable). I skipped my daily walk since I knew I'd hit my step goal at the fair 🤪 and no yoga, but that resumes this week!

So fun to see my kids be so proud of the projects they worked on and the work they put in on the farm and with their livestock. Even when we are in the thick of things (you know sometimes the hard work isn't always fun), there's the end result that is so rewarding to see.
