We did something today that was long overdue at the farm. We removed 5 very large black cherry trees that overhang what used to be cornfield, and is now hay field. Black Cherry is toxic to many livestock, and can easily kill a goat, so we had a local tree service fell the trees for us, and we got busy! With two chainsaws in my hand (not at the same time, that would be dangerous) and a wood chipper I borrowed from my good friend Ed, I got busy cleaning up. Most of these trees were covered in poison ivy. So I had to cover up completely after the video clip, and we are hopeful that things aren't too bad 😒 But, after about 6 hours with some help from Liz and my pallet forks, I got through it all! We've had a very frustrating week here on the farm. Earlier this week I made the decision to cut my hay, knowing full well that we were forecast to get about a quarter of an inch of rain yesterday, and possibly a sprinkle today. Had it happened that way, things would have been ok, but not perfect. But, its goat hay... It'll be fine I thought. Then, our .25" forecast turned out to be over 3" of rain yesterday. I was understandably upset, but thought I could still salvage things. When I got home from work today, I took a look at the field and everything was drying out nicely. There was less than a 20% chance of rain after 4:00 p.m., I looked at the radar and there wasn't a cloud in sight. So, I hooked up the Tedder, hopped on the tractor and went to work hoping that I could salvage the hay. Unfortunately, the universe had other plans. If you look at the attached radar images, at 4:20 p.m., the sky was completely clear. At 4:40, a small shower appeared to the west. By 4:50 that small pop up was a full blown storm heading straight for me. At 5:00, while I was still out trying to salvage the field while it was pouring on top of what I had just opened up to dry, I decided I'd had enough. At this point, I will unfortunately be mowing the entire crop under. Farming is fun 😒

People often ask me "do you ever see coyotes on the farm?"

Yes. Yes we do.

**Edit** a few people have told me they believe this to be a fox, who either has mange or has molted it's coat. My initial thought was fox when I saw him across the field last night. Sadly, I was led astray by a false ai identification. That being said, we do still see coyotes.... Just not this time 🤣

I got really tired of waiting for things to dry out around here, so I decided to push forward and play in the mud. The wall is done except for a few small pieces of chinking near the dry pond. Next step is to dig the dry creek and pond, and grade the driveway!!

It's been a couple of weeks since my last post. Liz and I were on vacation last week, and it has been exceptionally rainy around here, so the basement walkout project is on hold because it is a mud pit right now. But, I have some goat pictures for you!

Today was a busy day around here. I picked up the skid steer at about 7:45. We were done laying the boulders and rocks by the time the weather started to turn bad. We got all 6 pallets placed, and I have to say, I'm pretty happy with the results so far. I need to get a couple more pallets of boulders to finish, then I'll start work on the dry pond and creek bed

First attempt success! This one is on the bigger side, but not the biggest. I think my machine is a bit under sized, so I'm going to look at some other options to make it faster and safer. It'll get them where I want them, but maneuvering then it's going to be a challenge
