Sheldon Brook Sugarhouse is located on a tract of forest in the northwest corner of Deerfield off of Upper Road. After purchasing the property in 1986 we hired a forester to develop a plan to manage the neglected forest. Part of that plan was to thin a section that was thick with Sugar Maples to develop a sugar bush. Once the trees were thinned out the remaining Maples were able to grow. Initially
we started tapping the trees and selling the raw sap to a local sugarhouse. Then in 2013 with the help of a friend with a portable saw mill we built the sugarhouse from trees harvested on the land. The picture on the bottle is the actual sugarhouse. Our name comes from Sheldon Brook that flows from its source above Old Albany Road down behind the sugarhouse and into the Deerfield River. Because all of our trees are deep forest trees they are free from contamination by road salt, petroleum, carbon monoxide, pesticides and other contaminates of the modern world. Our syrup is produced over a wood fired evaporator utilizing wood from our land. When the raw sap is boiled down to maple syrup it is drawn directly off the evaporator, filtered and bottled while still hot. Our maple syrup is an all natural product without any additives or preservatives. Because of this, once the container is opened our maple syrup needs to be refrigerated. In its original unopened container it should keep indefinitely. Thank you for your interest in our product. We hope you enjoy using it as much as we enjoy making it. Pat O’Bryan
