The snow is back and the cold weather has returned! So, the farm stand door is closed but we are OPEN! Even if a gust of wind comes along and flips our sign to closed.
We do have eggs today and SACS of Stuff just delivered delicious sourdough bread. It might be a little frozen in the farm stand but did you know freezing sourdough actually improves the health benefits?
The cold temperature transforms some starch into resistant starch which can lower the glycemic index, improve prebiotics and gut health.
So, see we are actually improving your health and improving the quality of the bread by keeping our farm stand unheated.

Good morning farm friends!
I wanted to share with you that our good friends over at Cora Hillside Micro Farm have started a property maintenance company doing cleanups and land clearing etc.

If you came to our Deerfield farmers market you know Will and Victoria as the sweet couple that sold microgreens.

Their family just grew again and during the winter we all know how hard it is for farmers to make ends meet. So please pass along the Coras page, share their post to your friends and family and keep them in mind for any upcoming jobs.

Jon and I love the Cora's, they are just a fantastic family and really great people who had a rough year on the farm. We've all had the years farming where crops and animals die and no matter what we seem to do it doesn't work. It can be discouraging but Will and Victoria are fighters and I know they will bounce back.

We want to see them flourish so please help us out by sharing and helping out this lovely family.

Holiday cleanup? We’ll haul cardboard & holiday waste this Fri–Sun for $50. Service in Hooksett, Manchester, Auburn, Chester, Candia, Deerfield, Pembroke, Allenstown. Call/text 978-605-6065 or DM to book — spots filling fast!

This Christmas I can't help but see my blessings and be grateful for how God is moving in my life. I am rich beyond measure, this farm, these animals, the people in my life, all of you and even this falling apart old farmhouse. My cup is full.
Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all.

Wintering has begun. I feel the shift of winter solstice, every cell in my body wants to slow down and retreat from the outside world. Had I not seen a calendar I still would have instictly known winter solstice was here.
I feel more connected to the farm, just like the animals and land I need to hunker down, pull inward and reserve. The fresh bitter cold air refreshes me and breathes clean life into my lungs. Slow intentional days close to the fire with hearty stews and dim lights are necessary.
I am thankful for the farm, for this way of life. For being able to winter.

Please forgive my absences as I hibernate as much as possible.

Did you know you could have been gardening today even though it's December in NH? Winter gardening is fun and possible even where we live.
I don't do anything special except for having loose, deep garden soil in my beds. I do not use row covers, a greenhouse or use cold frames just a shovel to break the frost. I didn't even put straw on these beds.
Tomorrow turnips 🫜
This also works well with brussel sprouts, beets, rutabaga and parsnips. I am also still picking kale and swiss chard.

I don't know who needs to hear this today, but I know there is someone who does. This can be a hard time of year for many people. The holidays seem to shine a magnifying glass on finances, strained relationships and our loneliness. The darkness of winter solstice can feel heavy and exasperate depression.
I always dreaded Christmas, it was a strangling weight of expectations, disappointments and looking for happiness in something shallow that never quite satisfied. Instead of fa la la la la and Joy, Christmas left me feeling empty, depressed and bitter.
I was missing something or someone; I was missing Christ.
Three years ago, Christmas Eve Jon and I begrudgingly walked through the doors of a little church here in Deerfield that God was calling me to. It was awkward and scary, and we swore we weren't going to be "Church People". Heck we weren't even sure if we bought the whole faith thing. But we concluded what if all these years we were wrong?
What if God really was real?
We asked ourselves what would be worse, to get to the end of our life and find out there was God but we blew it.
Or to live a life striving to follow God and be no worse off in the end.
So, we followed.
Blindly at first.
Amazing things started happening in our life that increased our faith. God showed up for us over and over again until we could no longer deny Him.
He is real.
I have no doubt.
I never thought I could be a person that felt absolute JOY.
But I do.
Everyday.
