It is getting beautiful up on the hill. We’ve got some wind coming through this weekend so it’s time to enjoy falls fleeting beauty. You can see pleasant lake just by ciders head in the first picture.

Doing one of my favorite fall jobs today. Brush hogging edges of hay fields. All those rocks I have to dodge and stay away from with the hay mowers, I can just run over today. Pushing the weeds and saplings back for another season.
Trees are really starting to look awesome. Not peak yet but that makes the bright ones really stand out.

This photo of Charlottes first ever sheep show at Deerfield popped up in memories yesterday. And the second picture is her walking her last 4h market lamb out to the bus so I could run up to fryeburg. Hard to believe her 4h career is coming to its end this week. Couldn’t be more proud of what she has done in those years. But I’m also proud that she skipped showing Southdowns this morning to drive back to UNH and get school work done. She will be back up to the fair on Friday to sell her market lamb in the auction.

Couple quick pics from Deerfield fair now that I am up at fryeburg fair and actually have coverage. Kids had a great fair. Show days are always a whirlwind that we don’t get many pictures taken. But here are a couple. We did well in the ring and it’s been a busy busy fair in the maple assoc building too. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and said hi. Living in Deerfield makes the fair even more special to us.
And thank you to Jenny for this picture. It was Catherine’s first year as the 4h sheep superintendent.

Sometimes a post takes a week to come together. When you live in a fair town everything this time of year revolves around it.
I was strapping down this load of hay last Thursday and smelled grapes. If you know how Concord grapes smell in the fall it’s intense. They almost smell artificial it’s so strong. I was walking the tree line sniffing and looking. Luckily I had a box in the truck and got a bunch picked.
Catherine used last weekends storm to finish off her epic candy making for the fair and turn the grapes into jam and jelly.
She dropped them off at the fair yesterday along with a car load of maple syrup and candy.
And this morning she got blues on all her canning.
We will be around the sheep barn and maple building all fair. Stop by and say hi. Turn off to fryeburg.

Today’s farm happenings. Head down to Lee and shake the hay. Short days and big dews. Mean I spend lots of time tedding out hay. The old Massey might not be long on creature comforts but the old Perkins motors are legendary fuel sippers which is crucial when make laps in a field.
Then Catherine and I took the nice leisurely stress free quick ride to Springfield to haul 4 ewes home from big e. And if you’ve ever done that drive you’ll recognize the hyperbole. Why is the New England regional fair not central at all? And why in a city encircled by highways you have to drive thru the downtown in any direction you want to come in? One of my least favorite fairgrounds I’ve ever been too.
But after 6 1/2 hours we were back to the farm.

I’ve been quiet this week. Back to hay guy mode. Making dry hay this time of year really requires a lot of cooperation with Mother Nature. Much shorter drying times and longer shadows from the trees along the fields.
Not to mention expensive diesel means moving as much as possible in one shot with the truck and back to the farm Volvo when the truck isn’t required.
Glad we got 420 bales done yesterday and Bob dog and I can relax a bit this morning.

The kids dropped a bale for the hamp ewes to stretch the pasture longer. I guess homefry liked that idea.
