Thank you to Spooky View farm for the rye seed and the drill. If you are looking for tomatoes their farm stand has a ton right now.
And yes that’s an orange tractor sticking out the back. Kimball farm has been running some big Allis stuff on this job. Lots of colors in one spot.

Some folks say farming is a dirty job. I say some days are dirtier than others. Picking rocks in loose soil with a skidsteer is evidently one of the dirtier ones. Hoping to get rye seeded down on this piece before the end of the week. Pretty cool considering it was trees 2 months ago.

Busy couple days around here. Kids moved the hamp ewes to the other pasture this morning and then back to this week’s big project of getting a field reseeded.
I’ve been slow to getting the kids in tractors. Our farm is very hilly around the farm yard so it’s not the best place to learn. Charlotte got to spend some quality dusty tractor time yesterday doing some harrowing. Perfect first major tractor job. Literally drive in circles. And if you’ve already covered that area so what bust it up some more.
Today I packed it down picked more rocks and got grass seed in. Hopefully we get some of the rain they keep talking about which is why I’m not mowing hay.
Tomorrow is back to picking rocks in another field we are reseeding.

And here is Emory’s market lamb projects. For the sale on Labor Day at Hopkinton fair.
If you have any questions on the auction process reach out. Too me the best news is there are 2 butchers who will be on hand that you can arrange with once you buy an animal and they will have trailers there for transport.

There are days to be glad that Facebook hasn’t developed scratch and sniff yet.
The white pile is eggshells, they are a great soil amendment. Very cost friendly source of calcium for our acidic soils. But man they do pack a bit of punch to the nose. Not the worst farming smell but I tossed those clothes in the washer immediately and took a shower after spreading them.

And the fair photographer got a pic of me in the ring. I had forgotten to pack a show shirt. Luckily my good friend Ethan lives up there and lent me this absolute beauty it might be my new favorite show shirt.

We are home from Skowhegan state fair. Unpacking the bus and starting the first of probably 20 loads of laundry. So it’s time on this rainy Sunday for some post show reflection.
Charlotte was very successful. She had the overall champion ewe in the open show. And breed champion Hampshire ewe and Southdown ewe in the youth show.
But what was really the win this fair was the teamwork these 3 girls put in. There is no way we could have showed 17 sheep with 2 people without the Malings. The best part of showing is seeing your friends at fairs. Even better is when you get to share that success with those friends. They had supreme champion rams in both shows and dominated the border leister show as they usually do.
We are coming up on our market lamb auctions first one on Labor Day with the kids selling 4 market lambs.
And we will have both Southdown and Hamp breeding stock if you want too add to your flock for sale this fall.

I want to thank everyone for the support and shares on Charlottes auction post. The auction programs have been huge for both kids and their sheep projects. Emory is currently working on his letter and will have 2 at hopkinton as well.
This afternoon was picking rocks we are in the end stages of a major field reclamation project hoping this is one of 2 to complete this year.
Really interesting to watch it come together and think last time this was tilled up some farmer with oxen decided nope this rock can stay it’s too big.
