Job Title: Utility Technician
Position Overview
The Utility Technician is responsible for assisting in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and sewer collection systems. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient service to customers by performing hands-on fieldwork, inspections, and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
-Install, repair, and maintain water distribution and sewer collection infrastructure, including mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, and manholes.
-Operate and maintain utility equipment such as pumps, lift stations, jetters, vac trucks, and tapping machines.
-Perform utility locates and mark underground utilities according to state and local regulations.
-Read, repair, and replace water meters and meter boxes as needed.
-Respond to service calls, emergencies, and after-hours utility issues.
-Conduct leak detection, pressure testing, flow testing, and system inspections.
-Assist in routine flushing, cleaning, and maintenance of water/sewer lines.
-Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including service reports and work orders.
-Ensure compliance with safety procedures, company policies, and regulatory standards.
-Provide excellent customer service when interacting with property owners, contractors, and the public.
Qualifications
-High school diploma or GED (technical or vocational training in utilities preferred).
-Experience in water/sewer utility work, plumbing, or construction is a plus (training provided).
-Ability to safely operate utility equipment and power tools.
-Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL preferred or ability to obtain).
-Knowledge of utility regulations and safety practices.
-Ability to lift 75 lbs, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and perform physical labor.
-Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
