It all started with a little girl who entered a pig scramble! Katelyn, our oldest daughter entered and caught a piglet. We raised it up and took it to a butcher. All it took was one taste of homegrown pork to realize we were hooked. For the next few years Katelyn and our son Russell entered and won at pig scrambles. All the scramble pigs seemed to be either Yorkshire, Landrace or a mix of the two
(Pink Pigs). After 4 years of this we began researching different breeds of swine. We came across the heritage breeds and found the Tamworth hog. After learning that they are an excellent choice for bacon given the length of their bodies and excellent flavor we were very interested in trying them ourselves. The Tamworth swine are a gorgeous variety of reds, which helps prevent sunburn. They are excellent foragers, making them perfect for pasture raising. They are also a very winter hardy hog. All of this made us think they were perfect for what we were looking for in a pig, especially with our chilly winters! In 2010 we purchased our first two Tamworth gilts. When we had our first litters on the ground we saw first hand the excellent mothering skills the breed is known for. Now we are happy to be able to share these wonderful pigs with others. We offer Tamworths and Tamworth crosses. All of our swine are Heritage breeds. Our herd is pasture raised with electric fencing to give them the most natural life a pig can have. We want our pigs to be happy and treated with respect!
