Hey everyone, quick farm update since I’ve been getting messages asking about current pre orders and the availability for chicks and eggs for rest of the season here at Mockingbird Homestead. šŸ–¤

All remaining hatching egg preorders will be shipped out and fully caught up within the next 2–3 weeks. Thank you all so much for the patience this season. UPS has been amazing at quick deliveries and customer hatch rates have been AMAZING 🄰

Chick shipping this spring honestly came to a halt on and off because of the constant weather fluctuations up here in the East Tennessee mountains. As everyone who knows me already knows, I do not ship live chicks when temps are under 45–50°F on either end because their safety comes first, always. We’ve had way more random cold snaps than normal this year and honestly… I am very over the cold at this point. 😤

Last night should have been our final cold snap, so fingers crossed it’s finally all sunshine and warm weather ahead and no more freezing temps.

All remaining chick orders will continue shipping through June and into July, along with local pickup availability during that time as well. Please check your emails for tracking so you know when chicks will be shipping out! The goal is to officially end chick season by mid July so I can fully focus on farm projects and getting everything set up and organized for next season.

I will not be taking any additional chick orders for the 2026 season. However, I will still be posting small batches of ready to ship hatching eggs to the website here and there as they become available weekly, so make sure you’re subscribed to website/email updates because those listings tend to go quickly.

As most of you know, I unexpectedly had to move the farm last year and there’s still so much behind-the scenes work happening daily between buildings, coops, breeder pens, and infrastructure projects. Ending the season a little earlier this year is honestly the best decision long term for both the animals and my sanity.

Thank you guys again for all the support this season. šŸ–¤

Cold, rainy spring, gloomy day… but the girls are still putting in the work 🐣
Collected some eggs in peace and silence this morning, completely unplugged, and honestly… this is the kind of peace I’m choosing.

I hopped on here real quick after deciding to spend less time on social media and being in my busy season it’s quite nice…and uhmmm WOW… the chicken world lately? Are y’all okay?!
So much drama. So much cutthroat behavior. And way too many lies spread around.

I get it, times are weird, sales might be slower, and Facebook loves chaos… but this is just embarrassing at this point.

After 8 years of doing this, I’ve seen a lot, and sure chicken drama has always been a thing…but lately both customers and some of these newer ā€œbreedersā€ are just unhinged. Stepping on other people’s hard work, lying or tearing them down isn’t going to make you better… it’ll catch up to you.

Go outside. Garden. Get some sun when it comes back. Touch some dirt. Get off social media! This ain’t a reality show.

Just a quick update for everyone with current orders 🐣🐄

Orders are continuing to move out in the order they were placed, and the past two months have been really smooth on the shipping side.

I’ve been using UPS more consistently this season for hatching eggs, and the difference has been noticeable. Transit times have been more predictable and I’ve been getting far fewer delays compared to what we dealt with previously.

I’ve also been getting updates coming in of successful hatches, which is always good to see.

If you have an order in, just know things are moving and I’ll continue sending tracking as boxes go out.

Chick orders are starting to ship out this month continuing on through June. USPS Express is the only way to ship live chicks unfortunately- however so far they have been arriving in a timely matter and safe and sound as compared to last season where so many chick orders were arriving 10+ days late.

Thank you to everyone who has been patient and understanding — it doesn’t go unnoticed. šŸ–¤

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has placed orders this season and to those who have reached out with updates once their eggs hatched.

I’ve had a steady flow of messages coming in with hatch updates and chick photos. It’s always appreciated to get these updates and puts a smile on my face.

This is a slower, more hands-on process compared to large hatcheries, but seeing those results come back makes it worth it.

More orders are going out this week all shipped via UPS as they have been amazing to work with this year as opposed to USPS and their never ending delays- and I’ll continue working through all pre orders in order of which they were placed. Thanks Ya’ll šŸ–¤

A long overdue farm update from Mockingbird Homestead.

The farm didn’t disappear — life just took a very difficult turn for a while. Thank you all for your patience while I navigated a hard season.

Since last May, I’ve been going through a difficult divorce while also figuring out logistics, moving animals and rebuilding the farm on a new property. It has been one of the hardest seasons of my life emotionally and physically.

But the farm is still here — and I am still in East Tennessee.

During this transition I moved my animals and have been slowly getting everyone settled again.

I will be keeping my chickens and goats, but I will be selling my small herd of Kunekune pigs as I simplify and focus on what is manageable for myself moving forward.

I also want to apologize if I didn’t respond to your messages or emails. I truly tried my best, but between the divorce, moving animals, and the mental toll of everything, I simply didn’t have the capacity to respond to everyone. I appreciate the grace many of you showed me during that time.

Order updates:

Orders that were held over from last season started shipping again last week.

The majority of egg orders were fulfilled last year, however a handful were held over into this season.

Early last year USPS created a lot of problems and I had to reship many orders, which slowed everything down significantly. I ship hatching eggs through UPS exclusively and have not had issues so far like I did with USPS.

ALL unshipped chick orders from last year were refunded in 2025. UNLESS you asked to hold them over for this year.

Hatching egg orders that were held over are now being fulfilled as the birds begin laying again.

Not all breeds are laying at full capacity yet, and we had snow and freezing temperatures just a few weeks ago, so right now I am only shipping eggs that have passed fertility checks and are laying well to get orders out ASAP.

Some flocks are still coming back online, so availability is still limited while everyone settles into the spring laying season.

Fresh pre-orders for this year have also started shipping if the breed was available and no held-over orders were ahead of it.

I intentionally took only a small number of pre-orders this year so I can rebuild my breeder stock and keep things manageable.

One change moving forward:

I will no longer be offering Black Copper Marans hatching eggs.

After years of trying to educate people about egg color expectations and the reality that Marans eggs are notoriously difficult to hatch — especially once they’ve been shipped across the country — I’ve decided to step away from offering them as hatching eggs.

The stress and negativity around them has simply not been worth it for my mental health. Maybe I’ll change my mind again but for this season I’m not doing it.

I will still be offering Black Copper Marans chicks, and they will still appear in the rainbow hatching egg assortments, but strictly Black Copper Marans hatching eggs will no longer be available for that breed.

Lastly, thank you again to everyone who has supported Mockingbird Homestead and shown patience during this past year. It truly means more than you know.

Please keep an eye on your email inbox, as I am shipping orders very aggressively right now. My goal is to get all remaining orders out and close down chick and egg shipping earlier than usual this season.

Thank you all again for sticking with the farm through a very difficult chapter. ā¤ļø

I know I’ve been quiet on here and slower than usual responding to messages. I truly appreciate your patience and support. This year brought in a big surge of new customers, and with that came a wave of messages and unfortunately, a lot of spam as well- so some emails may get buried or missed. I always recommend checking my website first before reaching out, as most questions (especially about shipping, delays, and order timelines) are answered there in full detail.

This season has been incredibly tough. It started off with USPS seriously disrupting the shipping of both eggs and chick orders—causing delays, lost packages, and a lot of damaged shipments. I had to reship a large number of orders early on, which created a backlog I’ve been working through ever since. Thankfully, switching over to UPS has been a game changer for hatching egg orders, but I’m still catching up a bit on some breeds.

As of now, I have about 68 orders left to fill for the season. Just a reminder: my shipping season runs January through September/October every year. Adding a requested shipping window in the notes section of your order doesn’t guarantee it’ll go out then. I explain this on the website, but the timing depends on a lot—breed combinations, laying schedules, molting, weather (too hot or cold), and other unpredictable factors.

This has been one of the most difficult years for me personally as well. I’m currently going through a divorce, and I’m asking for grace and understanding while I navigate both the business and life behind the scenes. This is a one-woman operation, and I’m doing my absolute best to get everyone’s orders fulfilled as quickly and carefully as possible while also dealing with this personal life altering situation.

Once orders are wrapped up in September or October, the birds will be moving to a new property and I’ll resume my breeding programs from there for 2026. That said, I’ve made the hard decision to sell off my entire goat herd and Kunekune pig herd. If you’re seriously interested in any of the animals—or especially the full herds—please reach out to me directly with your offers or questions.

Thank you all for your continued support, patience, and kindness. It means more than you know. šŸ–¤
