Some people sure know how to ruin a good thing. 😞😥😡

This mama bear (and her husband) are fired up. Our 13-year-old son Ben started raising his own hens last year. He bought them, built them a home, feeds them, cares for them every single day. He collects the eggs, carefully packs them, sets up his roadside egg stand, and proudly sells them to the community.

In the last couple of days, five dozen eggs have been stolen.

Who steals from a hard-working 13-year-old kid trying to earn his own money on the farm? I get that times are tough for a lot of folks, but this one hurts. Maybe it was an honest mistake and a Venmo payment just didn’t go through? We’re hoping that’s the case.

Until we get a camera set up, the egg cooler won’t be out at the end of the driveway by the road anymore. Please reach out and we'll put eggs in a cooler by the buildings for you.

Ben already gets plenty of life lessons working hard every day on our farm. He didn’t need this one — learning that some people will take advantage of a kid’s honesty and hard work.

If you’ve bought eggs from Ben before, thank you so much for your honesty and support. You've made this boy beam with pride every dozen eggs he sell.

Two people ghosted on their quarter beef orders this month, so I now have two quarters (or 1 half beef) ready for the first person(s) who claim them!

Details:

Hanging weight: 172 lbs per quarter

Not cut yet — fully custom cut to your preferences! Submit how you want your steaks, roasts, ribs, ground beef, etc.

Ready for pick up this Friday or Saturday at Petty Brothers Meats in Annandale.

Pricing (per quarter):

Processing fee (paid directly to butcher when you pick up): $211 for standard cut

Meat portion (paid to us):
• Cash (5% discount): $634
• Check or Venmo: $668
• Card: $691 (+3.5% fee)

Total per quarter (example):
Cash: ~$845
Check/Venmo: ~$879
Card: ~$902

If anyone is looking for happy, healthy hens, I highly recommend HAVEN Meadows Farm! We just brought home a few new girls — they're super friendly and already settling in beautifully.

Ben consistently sells out of his eggs (a great problem to have!), so we decided to expand his flock since we had room in the coop. We picked up some fun new breeds, and I had the best time on a little "chicken adventure" with him. At 13, it's so special to find something we both love this much!

We each picked out a chicken that we thought looked pretty. Ben chose a beautiful Cochin hen whose feathers have lovely patterns with a sweet personality. No name yet. I pick out a mottled Houdan with the cutest crest feathers on her head. Her name is Tina!

He's already getting more eggs, which means his roadside cooler should be stocked more often. If you need eggs, just message us and we can arrange a time for you to stop by. The roadside cooler is usually available 1-8pm when we have extra (unreserved) eggs.

Nothing beats the joy of watching our cows run out to fresh grass for the first time this year! You can see the pure happiness as they kick up their heels and head into the pasture.

Pasture Day is a beloved family tradition. Today, we’re extra proud because Grandpa Dan is celebrating his 75th Pasture Day. He loves the job of beng official gate keeper on the occasion.

We always wait until the grass roots are fully developed before letting them out, and they’ll have fresh grass pasture until the snow flies.

There’s something so special about this day every single year.
