Swinton Community Growing Project

Swinton Community Growing Project A food forest in the heart of Delray Beach. Growing food & community organically since 2008. Join us! Often we just let food grow where it plants itself.

Located in downtown Delray Beach, Florida at 30 N Swinton Ave, SCGP is a perma-pop-up project guided equally by the principles of permaculture and by our need for short term, intensive growing. Seeking to enrich our understanding of how caring for plants and the earth is to care for ourselves, SCGP's food forest addresses existing air flow, microclimates, and inherent energy of the space to utiliz

e a myriad of growing methods and structures. We grow food in traditional raised beds, beautiful log beds, in storied planting guilds and portable grow bags. We cultivate a small orchard and butterfly garden, too! At SCGP you will find beloved annual vegetables like leafy greens, tomatoes, and peppers, as well as lesser known but fabulous and nutritional superstar perennials such as katuk, callaloo, chaya, and moringa. We offer educational workshops and pop-up community events and are committed to providing the opportunity to learn through nature how to support resilience in the garden, ourselves, and community.

Morning harvest! Why harvest in the morning? Veggies have an internal clock; they grow and respond to a 24-hr cycle of circadian rhythms. Throughout the night, plants replenish their energy stores and rebuild nutrients. So, harvesting leafy greens in the early morning - after dew has evaporated and before the day’s heat sets in - means you are getting peak nutrients and the crispest, sweetest greens. In the morning, the plant’s cells are full of water, which also helps extend shelf life. But one of the greatest joys of growing your own food is that you can harvest just what you need for the next meal and enjoy the flavor of super freshness!

This harvest is a medley of tender baby greens: red and green sorrel, little gem romaine, red and green salanova, oak leaf lettuce, and edible nasturtium flowers.
