Insanity Acres

Insanity Acres At Insanity Acres we grow oats, barley and hay and also bale the straw. Why Insanity Acres? Straw from the barley is baled and sold as well.

When folks back home (Missouri) learned we were moving to Alaska their reply was “you must be insane!” Hence, the name “Insanity Acres.” The name may sound like a joke but we can assure you our farming operation certainly is not. Insanity Acres is a 3600 acre family farm located approximately 12 miles off the Alaska Highway in the agricultural area commonly known as the “Barley Project", the la

rgest agricultural area in the State of Alaska. Situated in a large valley, the snow covered Alaska Range makes a breathtaking backdrop for the purple Granite Mountains in the forefront. The Gerstle and Tanana Rivers merge at the base of the tree covered mountains rising to the north. The Alaska Range is also visible to the east and west along with other mountain ranges making this area one of the most beautiful in the state. Crops grown in the project are barley, oats, seed grasses, hay and potatoes which are marketed within the State of Alaska. The project also boasts elk and bison farms. At Insanity Acres we grow barley and hay. We also produce a few potatoes for our own use. Our straw is baled and sold to dog mushers as bedding for their sled dogs.
