Finished our first (and hopefully last) fungicide pass on corn for 2026 yesterday. Vertical Ag knocked out a pile of acres yesterday for us and with rain in the forecast it may be perfect timing for this crop. 🤞🏼

Over the next 2–3 weeks, we’ll be back in these fields scouting to make sure the fungicide continues to provide good protection as the corn crop moves through grain fill. We’ll keep monitoring into September to see how the crop finishes.

If Tar Spot starts becoming active again and we see fresh lesions developing throughout the leaves of the corn plants, we’ll have to make a management decision on whether another fungicide pass makes sense to help get the crop get to black layer and across the finish line.

Every season is different, and the key is making these decisions based on what we’re seeing in each field. Some may need a second pass while others won’t. Let’s hope none do but we want to be ready for it.

Fungicide szn is here! 🌽

This is one of the farms we found tar spot early on. We are hitting 2 of our fields a little earlier than the rest as tar spot continues to progress in our area. Next week, we’ll finish spraying the rest of our corn.

This isn’t just a fungicide pass. We’re also applying foliar nitrogen product from called AmiNo and an insecticide to help protect the crop and maximize its potential during one of the most important stages of the growing season.

We run a full labeled rate of fungicide and then spike the mix with an additional fungicide to help extend protection further into grain fill - hopefully getting us close to black layer.

Right now, the corn is pollinating. Once pollination is complete, those kernels need healthy leaves to capture sunlight and produce the energy required to fill those kernels. Diseases like tar spot reduce that photosynthetic capacity and can cut grain fill short and could also prematurely kill the plant.

People often ask if fungicide pays. On our farm, the answer has consistently been yes. Across multiple years, we’ve seen a 10–30 bu/a yield advantage, which is why every acre of our corn receives this application. It’s a no brainer for us because we battle tar spot so bad.

Every farm is different and we hope others don’t get tar spot as bad as we do but it’s important to be on the lookout for the fungal pest.

Double crop soybeans ✅

Yes, we plant double crop soybeans with our 30 inch planter. We just plant the field 2 times to turn 30 inch beans into 15 inch beans 😁

Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

This Fourth of July is especially meaningful as we celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary. For 250 years, our nation has been shaped by faith, freedom, opportunity, and the countless people who have worked to build and preserve our great country.

Today, we’re especially grateful for the men and women who have served in our armed forces. Their courage and sacrifice have helped protect those freedoms for generations and will continue to do so for generations.
