I’m about to complain about Livingston Parish for a second.
And yes, somebody is probably going to get mad at me. 😂
I constantly hear people say, “There’s nothing to do around here.”
Y’ALL.
We put on the events. We shut down the streets. We find the vendors. We book the entertainment. We beg people to enter competitions. We make things affordable. We find community partners. We spend MONTHS planning them.
And then y’all stay home and say there’s nothing to do. 😭
So I’m calling your bluff.
Saturday, October 10, we’re shutting down Mattie Street in Downtown Denham Springs for the Chili Cook-Off. And this year, we’ve partnered with the Denham Springs Fire Department and the Red Cross to have Touch-A-Truck going on right alongside it.
There will be chili. A LOT of chili. We’ll have local vendors set up, live entertainment, fire trucks and other vehicles for the kids to check out, and plenty of people fighting for the very serious and prestigious honor of saying their chili is better than everybody else’s.
Basically, we planned you something to do. 😂
And before somebody says, “Well I don’t like chili.”
Fine. Come walk around.
Don’t like crowds? Come early.
Don’t know anybody? You will by the time you leave.
Think your chili is better than everybody else’s? PROVE IT. We still need teams.
Own a business? Get a vendor spot.
Just want to eat? Perfect. Honestly, you have the easiest job here.
But I better not see anybody on Facebook October 11 saying, “I wish we had more stuff like this around here.”
WE DID. YOU WERE INVITED. 😂
Local events only keep happening when local people show up.
So this is me personally challenging Livingston Parish: get off the couch, bring your family, bring your friends, come eat some chili, climb on some fire trucks, shop with local businesses, and spend a Saturday afternoon with your community.
October 10. 11 AM to 2 PM. Downtown Denham Springs.
There. That’s my rant.
Now share it so I can offend the rest of the parish. 🌶️😂
