Burning Daylight Draft Farm

Rainy days are for resting. This heat and humidity combo the last few weeks had been so hard on the animals and us.

Today is cool, damp, quite.

The constant drone of the fans is gone, the slightly panicked look in the eyes of animals who don't know how to cool down any more is gone. There's a palpable feeling of relief as the ground drinks slowly and we all rest, comfortable in our own skins for the first time in what feels like years.

We said goodbye to a truly remarkable being today, distinguished by his unwavering kindness and gentle spirit. Although Percy the Big Black Horse was in our lives for a relatively short time, his impact was profound. Katy Lund and I rescued him three and a half years ago, and after an initial six-month period of cautious trust-building, he formed a lasting connection with Allaster, and showed his deep affection for children. Following his return to BDDF, he instantly rekindled his bond with Allaster, becoming his most trusted equine companion, and enthusiastically engaging in anything he was asked to do. As a therapy horse at On the Farm Therapy, Percy excelled, consistently providing comfort and confidence to those in need, showcasing his extraordinary generosity and empathetic nature. Katy Lund
He is loved and missed.
