Alright y'all, my goal for 2025 is to keep up with watering my plants so I actually have a harvest this year 😅

So far some onions and a few unpictured herbs have been collected. There's still a ton more onions in the garden bed but it's now social experiment time to see if the bulbs get bigger 👀 Inside I've got fresh parsley and sage collected, rosemary and cilantro outside.

Hot banana peppers and red bell peppers are budding like crazy on my plants! I can't wait for those crops to really start developing(: I also planted two little corn stalks and am excited for them to take off.

Last week the VPE welcomed home 3 new ladies from one of the local feed stores(: Please meet Aspen, Florence, and Phoenix the New Hampshire hens 🐓

Prior to their arrival, the flock also welcomed 4 other ladies into the sisterhood (besides Ruby - two White Leghorns, a Rhode Island Red, and a Black Star) to keep up with the egg demand in my area. During this time, North Texas was hit with a wild dust storm that brought a mess of respiratory issues for a few of my girls who really hadn't been through a full respiratory season yet.

I don't know what was floating around in that wave of dirt but it did a number on my flock, claiming 5 of my birds. I started with a natural method of treatment but quickly had to move into antibiotics for the afflicted, and still lost them.

Now we're back to the present, trying to increase the hen population *again since the other 4 cancelled out the girls I said goodbye to.

Well, after 4 years of hobby farming it finally happened - one of my birds became egg bound 🤦🏽‍♀️

Normally Benni the turkey is the loudest of the flock lol. Chirping wildly when you open the back door, getting more excited the closer you get to their pen 😅 Yesterday though she just uncomfortably stood in one place, no chirps or running around to catch me as the rest of the flock went absolutely feral for the grass clippings from my lawn mow... she just stood.

I knew I'd need to put her in a warm soak to get this [hopefully] handled, so did I risk a turkey wing flap concussion to get her in the tub? You know it 😎

But it was worth it! Overnight she passed a soft shelled egg and was back to her normal chirpy self(: Swipe to see a sad sack in the tub and then what she looks like at her largest 😂

It's been a slow start to my growing season this spring (strictly because I haven't planted any seeds or bought any starts...lollll), but I've got a the tiniest little red bell pepper finally forming 😍

I'm also tending to my year old hot banana pepper plant that's on the mend from whiteflies. After it was out of season this past winter I pruned it back and the next thing you know it was sick 🥺 It's needed a ton of TLC to get to this regrowth, but I'm excited to hopefully see it start producing soon!

Is anyone else late to the party like I am?

It's pouring here AGAIN, and you know who is having a great time? Hoagie.

Hoagie and the rest of The Bready Bunch loooove running around in a downpour when everyone else is trying to stay dry in the coop. Ducks right?

Does anybody here have diva ducks who actually want to be dry vs running and quacking like idiots in the rain? 😂

(Also I swear I'm not mad at it because this is better than drought and triple digit heat for months on end...but come on now)
