Have you ever noticed how sunflowers seem to follow the sun as they grow? If you watch them throughout the day, you’ll see their heads slowly turn from east to west, tracking the sunlight across the sky. This remarkable process is called heliotropism—literally, “sun-turning.” Because the shaded side of the stem grows slightly faster than the side facing the light, the sunflower gradually bends toward the sun.
What’s even more amazing is that during the night, the flowers turn back toward the east, ready and waiting for the sunrise. Before the first rays of morning light appear, they are already positioned in anticipation of the sun.
There’s a beautiful spiritual lesson in that.
As followers of Christ, we should keep our eyes fixed on the Son, just as the sunflower turns toward the sun. Life has a way of pulling our attention in every direction. Trials, disappointments, fears, and distractions can cause us to lose our focus. But even in the darkest seasons, we can turn our hearts back toward Jesus, trusting His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
The sunflower doesn’t produce its own light—it simply positions itself to receive it. Likewise, we don’t find strength, peace, or hope within ourselves. We find them in Christ. So today, whatever you’re facing, keep turning toward the Son. The dawn is coming, and His light is always enough. 🌻✝️
