For the last 3 years, PineMelon has strived to offer the quality, flavor, and nutritiousness of local food to our Denver community. Almost 30,000 people have tried PineMelon since we first opened our doors, but over 90% do not continue to shop with us regularly.

We understand a lot of this may be due to our inability to offer the convenience of other delivery services, or the exact product customers want on any given day of the week. We also understand that ours is a premium service, and that not everyone can prioritize what we offer in their monthly budget.

What we want to know before we head into another busy spring & summer season is this: Does the Denver community need or at least want what we're offering?

We looking for 7,000 people in our community to make a pledge to support local food once a month. Even if you don't use PineMelon to keep your pledge every month and instead choose to support local food in another way, this will tell us that enough people are willing to support our vision to keep us in business. If we cannot get 7,000 people to make this commitment, then we will know that we are not right for the community at this time.

Thank you Bibamba Chocolate (Patrick and Mara) for hosting our first monthly MelonClub event.

Bibamba Chocolate is a farm to chocolate experience. In 2015, they started their own cacao farm in Cameroon, where co-founder Patrick is from. Their cacao then travels to Bibamba's kitchen/storefront in the Edgewater Public Market where the magic happens.

We had a great time touring the kitchen, learning how their chocolate is made, and trying samples.

A few fun facts we learned from Bibamba:

70% of the world's chocolate comes from cacao grown in Africa, yet most farmers don't earn a living wage.

87% of chocolate is produced under exploitative labor conditions, including slave and child labor.

1.56 million children are engaged in child labor on cocoa farms in Africa.

This is why it's so important to know how your chocolate is sourced. In Bibamba's case, whether they are growing, harvesting, fermenting, drying, or roasting the cacao, their employees are compensated fairly.
