A Huge Thank You From Rooted in Chaos

We just want to take a moment to say thank you.

To everyone who has stopped by our table, purchased sprouts, tried something new, shared our posts, told a friend about us, followed our page, or simply taken the time to ask us about what we’re growing thank you. Every bit of support means more to us than you probably realize.

Rooted in Chaos is still growing, and every week we’re learning, improving, and working toward something bigger. Seeing people come back, hearing that you enjoyed something you tried, and watching new faces discover what we’re doing reminds us why we started this in the first place.

Small businesses don’t grow because of one person. They grow because a community decides to support them. So whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or you just discovered us today, thank you for being part of what we’re building.

We’re excited about where Rooted in Chaos is headed, and we’re incredibly grateful to have you growing with us.

Harvest Night at Rooted in Chaos

Friday nights around here mean one thing: it’s harvest time baby.

Tonight’s sprouts have spent the week growing, getting rinsed, drained, checked, and cared for — and now they’re almost ready to come out of the jars and into their containers.

We harvest as close to market day as possible because we want the sprouts you take home to be fresh, crisp, and ready to enjoy.

There’s a lot that happens between planting a seed and putting a finished container on the market table, and harvest night is when all that work finally comes together.

By the end of tonight, this week’s crop will be harvested, packaged, labeled, and ready for market.

Freshly grown. Freshly harvested. Ready for Saturday.

We’ve Been a Little Quiet… But We’re Still Growing!

Sorry we haven’t posted much lately! Things have been pretty busy behind the scenes here at Rooted in Chaos, but the sprouts definitely haven’t stopped growing. We’ve been working on production, testing and refining our growing process, expanding our varieties, and getting ready for what comes next.

Sometimes building a small business means social media gets a little neglected while the actual business gets all the attention. But we’re still here, still growing, still learning, and incredibly excited about where Rooted in Chaos is headed.

We’ve got plenty more coming, and we’ll be sharing more of what’s happening behind the scenes again soon. Thank you to everyone who continues to follow along, stop by our table, try our sprouts, and support this crazy little thing we’re building.

Here is today’s lunch: an open-faced turkey sandwich topped with our Rainbow Sprout Mix.

One of the easiest ways to use fresh sprouts is also one of the best — add them to a sandwich you’re already making.

Today’s sandwich started with Hawaiian potato bread and was topped with mayo, white American cheese, hard salami, Salsalito turkey, and a generous handful of our Rainbow Sprout Mix.

My mom decided to give it a try, and her description might be my favorite yet:

“It almost tastes like there’s a tomato on the sandwich, without the squishy, watery texture of a tomato.”

Coming from someone who hates tomatoes, I’ll take that as a win.

The Rainbow Mix adds a fresh, crisp bite and a little extra flavor without overpowering everything else on the sandwich.

And you definitely don’t have to recreate this exact one. Sprouts are an easy addition to all kinds of sandwiches:

* Turkey and Swiss
* Ham and cheese
* BLTs
* Chicken salad
* Tuna salad
* Grilled chicken sandwiches
* Roast beef
* Burgers
* Avocado toast
* Breakfast sandwiches

Sometimes adding sprouts to your diet really is as simple as taking the lunch you were already going to make and throwing a handful on top.

Things have been a little quiet on our page for the past few days, but there has still been plenty happening behind the scenes at Rooted in Chaos.

We’re continuing to grow, test, learn, and work toward expanding the availability of fresh, locally grown sprouts in our community.

As we continue building, we also want to hear from the people we’re growing for. Stay tuned for our first tutorial!

How do you use fresh sprouts at home?

Salads, sandwiches, wraps, eggs, stir-fries, soups—or something else entirely?

Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear how you’re using them and what you’d like to see from Rooted in Chaos in the future.

🌱 Sprout Series — Day 15: Meet Kale

We know what some of you are thinking…

“KALE?! Absolutely not.” 😂

Hear us out.

Today we’re meeting kale sprouts, and if you aren’t exactly president of the Kale Fan Club, the sprouted version might surprise you.

🌱 What do they taste like?

Kale sprouts are generally mild, fresh, and slightly earthy.

They give you that fresh green flavor without feeling like you’re sitting down to chew your way through a giant kale salad. 😂

🌱 What do you eat them with?

Try kale sprouts on:

• Sandwiches & wraps
• Burgers
• Salads
• Eggs
• Tacos
• Chicken
• Grain bowls

Or mix them with other sprouts for different flavors and textures.

🌱 Why do we love them?

Kale belongs to the same cruciferous vegetable family as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts.

And we just think it’s pretty cool that the vegetable everyone recognizes as those big leafy greens starts out looking like these tiny little sprouts. 🌱

Plus, kale sprouts are another great option for someone who wants to try sprouts but isn’t looking for the HELLO, I AM SPICY experience you get from varieties like mustard. 😂🔥

Question of the Day:

Be honest…

🥬 Kale lover
😐 I’ll eat it
😂 Absolutely not

And if you’re in that last group—would you be brave enough to try it as a sprout?

🌱 Sprout Series — Day 14: Meet Red Cabbage 💜

You know cabbage.

But have you ever tried it when it’s this tiny?! 😂🌱

Today we’re meeting red cabbage sprouts!

And despite the name, these little sprouts often have gorgeous purple/pink stems that make them one of the prettiest things we grow.

🌱 What do they taste like?

Red cabbage sprouts have a mild, fresh flavor with a slightly earthy, cabbage-like taste.

If the thought of eating a big plate of cooked cabbage isn’t exactly exciting to you… don’t count these little guys out. 😂 The flavor is much lighter than mature cabbage.

🌱 What do you eat them with?

Try red cabbage sprouts on:

• Sandwiches & wraps
• Tacos
• Burgers
• Salads
• Eggs
• Grain bowls
• Chicken

They’re also an easy way to add a little color to your plate. 💜

🌱 Why do we love them?

Besides being ridiculously pretty?

Red cabbage sprouts contain naturally occurring plant compounds, including glucosinolates, which are found throughout the cruciferous vegetable family.

They’re a great example of something we’ve loved showing you during this series:

That tiny sprout eventually becomes a whole vegetable!

Same plant. Very different stage. 🌱➡️🥬

Question of the Day:

Have you ever eaten red cabbage—or would the sprout version be your first try? 👀

🌱 Sprout Series — Day 13: Meet Mustard 🔥

Okay, spicy people.

Your day has arrived. 😂🔥

Meet mustard sprouts.

Remember when we said sprouts can taste completely different depending on the seed?

Mustard sprouts are the proof.

🌱 What do they taste like?

Mustard sprouts have a sharp, spicy bite that can remind you of horseradish or wasabi.

And yes… these tiny things can have some HEAT. 🔥

🌱 What do you eat them with?

Anywhere you’d normally reach for mustard, horseradish, or something spicy, try adding mustard sprouts:

• Burgers
• Roast beef sandwiches
• Tacos
• Steak
• Eggs
• Wraps
• Salads

You don’t need a huge handful, either. A little can add a LOT of flavor.

🌱 Why do we love them?

Because food should be fun!

Mustard sprouts let you add heat, crunch, and freshness all at once. We also love combining them with other varieties to create blends with different levels of spice.

And if you’re the person who always orders the hottest thing on the menu…

We may have found your sprout. 😂🔥

Question of the Day:

Rate your spice tolerance:

🌱 Mild
🌶️ Medium
🌶️🌶️ Spicy
🌶️🌶️🌶️ BRING THE PAIN

🌱 Sprout Series — Day 12: Meet Alfalfa

If there’s one sprout you’ve probably seen before, this might be it.

Meet alfalfa sprouts! 🌱

Alfalfa is one of the classic sprouts people recognize from sandwiches and salad bars—and there’s a reason it works so well.

🌱 What do they taste like?

Alfalfa sprouts are mild, delicate, fresh, and slightly grassy with a light crunch.

They’re not trying to take over your meal. They’re just there to make it better. 😂

🌱 What do you eat them with?

Alfalfa is super versatile. Try it on:

• Turkey or chicken sandwiches
• Wraps
• Burgers
• Salads
• Eggs
• Tacos
• Avocado toast
• Bowls

Because the flavor is so mild, you can also mix alfalfa with something bolder—like radish or mustard—to balance out the heat.

🌱 Why do we love them?

Alfalfa is an easy, approachable sprout. If you want the freshness and crunch without a strong flavor, this one’s for you.

Sometimes simple is exactly what you need. 🌱

Question of the Day:

Have you had alfalfa sprouts before? We want to know where you had them!

🌱 Sprout Series — Day 11: Meet Clover

We’ve met spicy radish and earthy fenugreek. Today we’re bringing things back to the mild side.

Meet clover sprouts! 🌱

If you’re new to sprouts—or you’ve tried one before and thought, “Ehhh, not for me”—clover might be worth another try.

🌱 What do they taste like?

Clover sprouts are mild, fresh, crisp, and slightly sweet. They don’t have the peppery kick of radish or mustard, so they’re an easy way to add some freshness without changing the flavor of your whole meal.

🌱 What do you eat them with?

Try clover sprouts on:

• Sandwiches & wraps
• Burgers
• Salads
• Eggs
• Tacos
• Grain bowls
• Pretty much anything where you’d normally use lettuce!

🌱 Why do we love them?

They play well with everybody. 😂

Clover is great by itself, but its mild flavor also makes it perfect for combining with stronger sprouts in a blend.

If you’re standing at our table saying, “I’ve never had sprouts before. Where do I start?” — clover is definitely one we’d suggest.

Question of the Day:

When you try something new, do you start mild and safe or immediately go for the boldest thing available? 😂
