What started as a cold, rainy weekend in October has grown into one of the tastiest traditions of the summer! It’s all thanks to the teams, attendees, and our friends at Fareway Stores Centerville. You’ve helped create the incredible atmosphere that makes this event what it is. Each season gets a little bigger, a little better, and a whole lot more fun, and we’re so excited to bring you the 5th edition.

The things you love? They’re not going anywhere: great BBQ, cold drinks, live music, and a full day on the Square.

But we’ve made a few upgrades we think you’re going to love:
• New dates: June 5th (overnight for cooking) & 6th (event day) to better align with other local events (and yes, we’re trying to beat the heat a bit ☀️)
• Extended hours from 11am–7pm so there’s even more time to hang out, listen to music, and enjoy the day
• More games, more live music, and more reasons to stick around

Well we are back home and half way rested up from our first Rib Cook Off Association Que for the Red, White, & blue hosted by Weekend Bum BBQ!! It was a little wet but overall can’t complain. So how did we do?

Talking about BBQ!!

Episode 357 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Podcast brings back our popular “Under the Radar” segment where we find out more about up-and-coming competition teams. Jordan Williams and Richard Smith comprise Bbq Pit Bros out of Des Moines, Iowa. They began cooking The Kansas City Barbeque Society 2-Meat backyard comps in 2021 and, after multiple Grand Championships and Reserves, the team has taken the plunge full-on into the KCBS 4-Meat Masters Series in 2026. Jordan and Richard talk about the journey and how their contrasting personalities keep the team in balance.

We also talk about the growing popularity of high school BBQ with Charles Simpson, head coach of the Missouri champion Osceola High School“Serial Grillers,” an all-girl team comprised of three freshmen and a senior. They'll be off to National High School BBQ Association competition next month. Chuck and wife Jessica also organized the mid-July KCBS Masters and Backyard doubleheader Smokin on the Osage BBQ Contest in their hometown. This will be the 8th annual and Chuck is pleading with teams to avoid waiting until the last minute to enter, so he and Jessica can plan with less stress.
