W Diamond L Ranch Located in Northeast New Mexico, W Diamond L Ranch has been in operation for 104 years. The W Diamond L ranch was founded in 1919 by A.F. We are avid gardeners.

Willett and his wife Bessie. Grandma and Grandpa Willett left Oklahoma and moved to northeastern New Mexico to homestead. They also created the W Diamond L brand for horses and cattle in New Mexico at this time. Today the northern half of the original ranch is run by Suzanne Bennefield, a granddaughter of the Willetts, and her husband Ted. Their son Jeremy also lives on the ranch and helps out. The ranch raises commercial cattle, quarter horses, paint horses, hogs, and chickens. We sell fresh eggs to local folks. The ranch offers a limited amount of hunting for antelope, deer, turkey, bear, and mountain lion. The area supports an abundance of wildlife including pronghorn antelope, coyotes, turkey, mule deer, elk, bald eagles, fox, bears mountain lions, and roadrunners.

Social media August 1945.

This Guy, NM community news was published in the local paper (Union County Leader) on August 16, 1945, exactly one week after the US dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki. It has just recently come across my path.

It says at the top "intended for last week". As a weekly paper, this local gossip was likely cut the previous week to make room for the breaking news of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki Japan.

Mr. and Mrs. Willett are my great grandparents.

The unintended consequences of industrial farming and ranching are harsh.

I watched this episode of Star Talk last night. They interview Will Harris of White Oak Pastures and discuss the unintended consequences of modern industrial food production.

What was new for me in my studies and practice of regenerative agriculture is when they are discussing all of the tools modern farmers use whose names end in "cide". Industrial linear agriculture does more unaliving than providing healthy nutritious sustenance for humanity. And all of those cides end up somewhere. Our water, our soil, our air, and our bodies. Is it any wonder that we have so much food related disease?

Watch or listen and let me know what you think.

I'm looking forward to reading Will's book A Bold Return to Giving a Damn.

Is industrial farming bad for us? Neil deGrasse Tyson and co-hosts Chuck Nice and Gary O’Reilly learn about the future of food production, regenerative agric...

The garden ended up being a wreck this summer with the grasshopper plague and hail.

I had tomato plant seedlings that never made it outside. They were a bit neglected for awhile, but I've finally got them trained and pruned up a bit for light and airflow.

We should be loaded up on tomatoes shortly.

I'll make clones of the best plants over the winter for the garden next spring.

In that little space in the greenhouse, I've got Black Krim, Roma, yellow pear, large cherry, and cherry tomatoes. All were started from seed or clones and volunteers from last year.
