Meadow BlazingStar Honey We are beekeepers in Des Moines, Iowa caring for around 250 hives. Everything we produce is harvested from our own hives.

We sell our 100% raw wildflower honey, creamed honey, handmade beeswax items & filtered beeswax, propolis, and Northern-bred bees. We care for our hives in & around Des Moines & operate our small family business out of our home in Beaverdale. Our honey is pure, raw wildflower honey, a blend of honey the bees produced as they foraged on the various blooms available throughout the seasons of the year. We usually harvest in September each year & coarse-filter the honey. It is as straight-from-the-hive as possible! Our handmade beeswax products are 100% natural beeswax rendered from our own hives. We render the wax cappings collected during honey harvest by giving them 3 water baths to remove debris as well as some of the embedded honey & pollen. This results in a clean wax that is suitable for use in cosmetics & candlemaking, yet it retains the beneficial properties of natural beeswax. We then fine filter the wax a minimum of one more time. The propolis we use in our tincture is harvested from our own hives using plastic propolis traps. The traps provide a way to harvest clean propolis (rather than scraping propolis from equipment such as the wooden hive boxes & frames). After collecting the propolis, we carefully sort out & filter by hand any physical impurities.

We are sending along a HUGE thank you to the Beaverdale Farmers Market & everyone who attended this season or cheered us on from afar! This was our 11th year at our beloved neighborhood market and our best season yet! We appreciate everyone's support & the hardworking volunteers who make it all happen (and make it look easy). The market photographer this season was amazing--thank you!
It was pretty darn heartwarming to see this community come together quickly last week as the impending storm arrived much more suddenly than expected: we appreciate all who rushed to tamp down billowing, flying tents & other airborne objects & scurried to hustle produce, products, signage, & equipment inside to safety.
We'll see you all next June!
