We appreciate the Iowa Food System Coalition’s work to support local food producers in Iowa 💚

We’re a coalition of over 60 partners across the state of Iowa. Together, we’re strengthening Iowa’s food infrastructure, supporting farm viability, improving community health, and increasing access to nourishing, locally grown food.

Today we’re highlighting IFSC partner Iowa Food Cooperative!

Iowa Food Co-op is a year-round online farmers market for Central Iowa, connecting members with more than 75 Iowa producers and more than 1,500 local products. Members can order exactly what they want from the producers they choose online, or shop the co-op storefront.

This kind of local food infrastructure helps create reliable markets for Iowa farmers while making it easier for Iowans to access fresh, locally grown food year-round.

Iowa has some of the world's most fertile farmland, yet 90% of the food Iowans eat comes from outside the state!

We know many people are interested in eating local, but struggle with following the different farm stand, farmers' market, and CSA schedules. That's where food hubs come in! The Iowa Food Cooperative is one of just a handful of local food hubs.

Like a grocery store, we (and other hubs) distribute foods from many different producers in one place. Unlike a grocery store, we have a conscious focus on local foods.

Making the effort to eat local strengthens our economy. You can support small farmers who want Iowa to thrive because they live here, too.

See the second slide for a list of hubs in Iowa. If the Iowa Food Co-op doesn't serve you, maybe one of them does!
