The YSS Rooftop Gardens program produces thousands of heads of lettuce, but its most important export is the employability young adults need to change their lives. Following its debut last year, the garden now employs several groups of at-risk youth, who help grow romaine lettuce. The lettuce then makes its way to local farmers’ markets and select Hy-Vee stores. Founder Samanthya Marlatt joins the to share more about the unique program.

The day has arrived!! You can officially purchase our Romaine Lettuce at TWO Hy-Vee locations in the metro (E Euclid & Mills Civic)!!

Our lettuce is grown YEAR ROUND without pesticides in our Freight Farms!

Participants in our YSS Rooftop Gardens program seed, transplant, harvest and package the lettuce while earning $15 per hour! Their hard work provides fresh, nutrient-dense produce that is locally grown.

All profit made from the sale of our lettuce funds programming, allowing Rooftop Gardens to continue serving at-risk young adults in our community so we can be sustainable in more ways than one!!

Did you pick up your lettuce yet??!
