Feeding our girls out with Mix30 through those cold spells to give them just a little more nutrition. Do you feed Mix30? How do you supplement your herd?

So, I have failed miserably about updating this farm page!! I apologize!!

We have a new farm “ornament”! I thought cookie would be our last baby to raise on the bottle, but with farming, every day brings new challenges!

This year we were blessed with Sky!

Sky was born a little early, weighing in at a measly 28 pounds when I found her. She is out of true Brangus x Brangus stock and somehow she is soooo colorful. Sky had to be taught how to stand, how to walk, how to nurse, and how to become everyone’s new favorite on the farm, of course.

Sky’s mother never produced milk after sky was born and had an uphill fight of her own as she was battling Bovine Leukemia and Anaplasmosis. Both of which are the deadliest, incurable diseases in cattle. Sky’s mom passed two weeks ago to the day and Sky has been learning to cope without her biological mother around. She has, however, made a new family! She has been penned with a few other farm favorites and has been moved to my barn. She spends her days with Mrs.Oreo and Cookie and absolutely loves to aggravate each of them to death!

Today Sky is a month and 10 days old and is the spunkiest little girl on the farm!

So, everyone, say hello to our new forever friend, Sky!!!

P.S. My lovely wife, Natalie, named her Sky due to her rare Sky Blue eyes! Sky is our little genetic anomaly!

P.S.(2) I strive to be the best “shepherd” that I can be to our cattle, I am a work in progress but I know that I can’t meet every need that needs to be met. However, just as I strive to be the best shepherd that I can be for my cattle, I know the true shepherd! The Bible says in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” There’s not a single thing or need that our Almighty Shepherd, Jesus Christ, can’t meet! My prayer is that if you have a need in your life, I pray that you call it out to him. Let Jesus meet your needs!!!

The story of Cookie!

February 25, 2023 was supposed to be a day of reflection for my family. It was my late grandfathers birthday and my family and myself have been lost without him. It was his first birthday in my lifetime that I wasn’t able to hug his neck, much less just to call him. But, little did I know that we had a surprise to be dealt to us.

Cookie was found early that morning laying by a hay ring. No momma in sight, shivering, and super hungry. He looked to be freshly born and had not even been completely cleaned up by his mother. I knew something was off because as I went to tag him he balled and balled and balled just to have no mom come to his aid. I decided I’d catch him and pull him in with me as I rode around trying to find momma. I had no luck.

I went to tractor supply and bought a few things and called my sweet Mawmaw and told her that I had a job for her. We knew then that Cookie was heaven sent by Pawpaw on his birthday for us to take care of.

Cookie was severely stubborn and had no intentions on trusting me, or anyone else, to take care of him. So I put him in my stock trailer underneath a barn and allowed him some time to relieve some stress and to get hungry. After what seemed like 3-4 hours of trying to get him to take the bottle, he finally took it.

The rest of the story is simple. Cookie loves neck rubs and for someone to give him attention. He went on his first trip to MSU yesterday and got a great report and no issues. He weighs a walloping 73 pounds and is the biggest pet you’ll meet.

The moral of the story is this;

On a day that I had coined to be doom and gloom, Pawpaw and Jesus had other plans. I’m so thankful that Pawpaw had Jesus to send us cookie just to take our minds off of worrying about him. God is super faithful to his people. He’s been better than good to me!

We, here at the farm, are late on our first cutting of hay. I wanted to wait this long to give my field time to go to seed. We planted this old 44 acre bean field with a 10’ no till drill last May and let me tell you that this Tifton 9 Bahia grass has not disappointed me not one bit. Very drought resistant as you can tell since we haven’t had a good rain here in nearly a month. Our plan is to let these showers come through this week and if God sees it fit to give us a rain break, we will drop it first full week of dry weather that they give.

This ole grass reminds me of Bible. When we first come to know Christ as our savior, the Bible tells us that we become babes in our faith. Just as this grass started from a seed, we too must start from scratch. Christ will continue to spiritually water us from day to day as long as we are faithful to him. If you are just now starting out with your walk with Christ, or maybe if you are just in a valley, know that there’s a rain coming and that God will give an increase!!!

“as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”

Vaccinated for respiratory and wormed our cows and calves for the year this past Saturday. Also black legged the calves and gave our two Hereford bulls their pink eye vaccine. Couldn’t have done it without the help of our family! Let’s see how the ladies and babies of the farm clean off and make gain in weight now!

Been a while since I’ve posted on here!! Being in the propane industry and having a winter calving season, it’s hard to find time to make a post!

We have had 21 babies this year already sired by Landry and Singletary! Something even crazier is that they all were in the month of February!! We strive for a 60 day calving season here at the farm but we do have stragglers each year! All the hard work we put into this place pays off once the babies start dropping!!!

I will update another post shortly on another adventure that we have taken on here recently here at the farm. I will say this, Cattle Farming and all other forms of farming can probably be looked at as a hassle, and even a hinderance, most of the time. But for those who love it, it never gets old!

God Bless you all, and God Bless the Farmers!!!!

I made this page back a while ago, and have just now realized that I probably have never taken the time to credit the people who are behind Scott’s Cattle Farm. Without these folks, we are up a creek and I just wanted to take the time to thank each of you for always going out of your way to make sure our farm is top notch!

Also, we have been too busy to take the time to make a photo with our sign, so here’s a photo of us on Easter! The sign photo would be awesome to post of us, but without Jesus taking a cross on Calvary’s hill, we are nothing. Scott’s Cattle Farm may be all about cattle, but I can promise you that we are all about Jesus too!
