Two young bantam chick's rode out the storm in the warmth of the woodstove room with surrogate Mom, Theodora. The hen in the foreground got trapped and severely pecked in the head by a malicious band of older chicks known as the "gallinas malas" gang. Once chickens taste blood, there is no stopping them. Lucky for her, I happened to be outside and heard the commotion. They had literally exposed her skull. Chickens have an amazing ability to heal, and with some antibiotic ointment, the company of her brother and Theodora to snuggle into, she is doing quite well. They'll be guests of the woodstove room until she heals and her scalp grows back. They have settled in and Linda is quite protective of them. ❤️

Another bantam hatch. Wacky hens. I found them tonight when I pulled a bale in the loft for the minis, Donk and Arizona. I don't know what she was thinking at this time of year! I don't even know how many she has, I scooped them all up under wings and brought them all in in a crate. I've never seen a hatch this tiny! It's supposed to be 25°F tonight, so they're living in the bathroom to warm them up and give them a good start. You can expect a bantam sale this Winter! They're as bad as rabbits, lol. I do love having them around. They fly so not too susceptible to predators.
