September carries a whole lot for our family.

Last year, our BlackDADDY, Jeffery Thomas, passed away on September 9—and our whole world stopped.

One minute, we were preparing a big family dinner to celebrate his 73rd birthday and our BlackMAMA and BlackDADDY’s 49th wedding anniversary. Just days later, we were planning his homegoing. Whew!

We decided to close up for a few weeks because, honestly, we needed to. We needed time to plan his homegoing, grieve, take care of our BlackMAMA and love on one another. But even while our world had stopped, there was still a business to take care of, a team depending on us and the legacy our parents built to keep moving forward.

Tomorrow, September 17, is our BlackDADDY’s birthday, and we’re doing things a little differently. My sister and I are taking the day to be together, love on our BlackMAMA and celebrate the man we love and miss so much—while our staff holds things down at Sweet Potato Sensations.

We’ll be open with a special limited menu featuring baked goods, soup and our deli sandwiches. Our regular hot-food menu will not be available on Thursday.

Thank y’all for understanding, loving on our family, praying for us and continuing to support the legacy our BlackMAMA and BlackDADDY created. 🧡 Happy Angel Birthday Black Daddy! Xo
