MatoTomatoGirls’ Story

Mato Tomato Girls is a mother-daughter (and now upcoming 9 year old son) team that makes a variety of goods from their home in Devine, Texas.

Don’t forget about the fresh free-range chicken & duck eggs and freshly harvested garden produce in season. A few of our favorites are different varieties of squash, tomatoes in all sizes, peppers, corn, beans, cucumbers, beets, radishes, okra, lettuces and several varieties of kale, onions, garlic, all colors of potatoes, as well as gorgeous zinnias in all colors...to name just a few!

13 year old daughter, Selah’s, specialties include artesian bread, sweet bread, as well as many other baked goods, goat's milk soap with and without loofahs, homegrown natural loofahs, jewelry, hand/machine sewn dolls, stuffies, children/teen clothing, remade and renewed feed bag totes and aprons, crochet, canned goods to include fruit butters, salsas, jams, jellies, and pickled items, and more. Selah has been baking, sewing, and canning for years and is consistently learning new recipes and coming up with new ideas to bring to life. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her livestock guardian dogs, chickens, ducks, cows, piggies, and foster horse. She also loves harvesting the garden and only calls pulling weeds work. Selah has never met a book she didn’t love and enjoys drafting stories of her own.

Brother, Micah, makes sewn dolls and stuffies, reindeer food around holiday times, and dried bean soup that is delish once prepared according to his thorough instructions. He is earning his stripes in the kitchen and is learning to master many skills. In his free time, you can find Micah playing in the hay with his best friend Sadie-Mae, the great pyr/anatolian mix, or fishing in the stock tank. He enjoys giving his sister a hard time, riding his bike with an ever-flat front tire (to build leg muscles), and building things out of reclaimed materials.

Momma, Heather, provides all supervision for each item made and sometimes finds herself spinning in circles trying to keep up with the busy kiddos with all their ideas, needed ingredients, and plans. Selah calls her the ‘business manager’ of MatoTomatoGirls and that name is quite fitting. When you’re commenting, messaging, or texting MatoTomatoGirls, you’re talking with Heather. Heather prides herself in being on the ready to easily whip up a meal large enough to feed an army and enjoys her true passion and calling of feeding people. Whether she is feeding her family and friends, customers, or those in need, Heather finds her peace and calm while working in the kitchen. Her calling in life is to feed her family ~ whether it be with food, The Word of God, imaginations of her children, or the 100+ farm animals that call the homestead home, and/or whatever else needs to be fed such as the sour dough starter on the counter or the vase of flowers on the dining room table ~ and she keeps a stocked pantry and freezer just for those times. You can also often find her on the tractor working the field, plowing up a new garden plot, or checking fences. Her goal is to raise all the vegetables, fruit, and meat her family needs directly on her homestead. While the goal is lofty, she is making great progress each month to becoming completely self-reliant through growing her own farm. She also hopes to teach her children to do the same with all the needed skills that go along with her goal.

Daddy, Steven, is the builder, support system, and heavy-lifter. These 45# buckets of squash don’t move themselves. He is present and helping at every farmer’s market and vendor event we attend, even though the ‘business of making and growing things’ isn’t his thing. We couldn’t make it through without his strong hands helping guide the way.

All proceeds from sales go to support Selah & Micah in their 4-H projects and endeavors.
