Hi.

2023 is a year of stripping things down and peeling them back to see what lies underneath in the hopes of finding or seeking clarity on what it is I discover.

Tulips are sold out for the season, which sounds grander than it is — I lost the majority of my bulbs to weather and time.

And instead of growing summer and fall flowers, I’ll be evaluating and building infrastructure, physical and beyond.

I’m not sure how much I’ll be on social media as it fills me with panic over all the things I feel like I should be doing and leaves me questioning my relevance and purpose. Which is pretty not fun and certainly not a productive way to figure one’s s**t out.

And it seems like I’m always figuring my s**t out.

I’d love to see you on the other side of this quiet chapter, but in the interim, here are some of the very few blooms I’ll have this year.

With gratitude, Veronica

Morning! If you feel like sticking your hands in the dirt this sunny, 45 degree December day, stop on by for some cathartic tulip bulb planting... Not a lot of super heavy lifting, just methodical, wonderfully mindless work. I'll be out 11ish to 5ish.

And I'm always glad to trade dirt time for blooms!

Can we talk about seasonality y’all? How and why and when stuff grows—plants and animals—in Michigan? Because it gets lost in the grab and go January strawberries, .55/lbs turkey and November tulips. Lost in the Shipt delivery or FTD order.

The immediacy is lost. The awareness of what it took in time and dirt and labor and planning and water and sun and pruning and support and food and fertilizer and shelter and injury and care and trial and error and error and error and the tenacity and heartache. We are out of synch.

Which is why when someone asks me if they can get a bouquet in mid-November, I have to remember to be gentle, even when I’m compelled to be otherwise. Maybe if I wave the immediacy and amplify the rhythm. If I sit with my disconnectedness. Maybe we can step in time.

Announcing this season’s MVP: Lindsay at Back 9 Farm, Cut Flowers! She saved my behind more than once this summer when I just couldn’t produce enough to meet demand. And probably against all CSA business model advice, I just couldn’t let the season end with unfulfilled shares due to weather, even though my agreement covers this possibility.

(Note to self: Add this to my Things to Talk to My Therapist About.)

ANYWHO: Lindsay rallied with me in the final hours before the killing frost last Friday—which sounds only slightly more dramatic than it was—and I bought like a metric ton of truly some of the most beautiful, healthy blooms I’ve had the pleasure to work with.

Do I feel a little funny about supplementing shares with wholesale blooms? Sure. But hot damn is it nice to make sure blooms from good hands got into good hands.

Thank you Lindsay! ❤️ Not pictured: The other 15 bouquets that went out last weekend. Whew.

A sigh of relief and a meditation of thanks.
