Heart of Maine Homestead

Heart of Maine Homestead Heart of Maine Homestead is a first-generation family homestead in Dexter, Maine. We utilize organic methods to produce our food.

We're building our dream from the ground up, raising animals, growing food, and sharing the journey toward a more sustainable, self-sufficient life. No synthetic fertilizers, no pesticides, no GMOs... None of those listed items are necessary for success! We use our own compost and animal manure to amend and build the soil. We also strictly use only organic ingredients when making our bath and body

products. We hope to one day be officially certified organic, but know that until then, we will continue to use the same organic methods, continue to hold our products to high standards, and produce the best quality hygienic products for you!

Finally got around to making kombucha today! 🙌🏻

After being neglected for far longer than we'd like to admit 😅 the SCOBYs finally got some fresh sweet tea! Thankfully they still looked healthy and ready for use.

We brewed up one green tea batch and one black tea batch which will be fermenting for about two weeks. Now let's see if we remember to bottle it before another month goes by! 🤣

Anyone else have a fermentation project that's been patiently waiting for attention? Please let us know it’s not just us! 🥲

30 holes. Dug by hand. 💪🏻🪏

If you've ever worked Maine soil, you KNOW it's less "dirt" and more "rocks with a little dirt mixed in” 😂🪨

Yesterday we planted 30 grapevines, the beginning of a dream we've been talking about for a long time! Every vine in the ground now is one step closer to having our own vineyard here at Heart of Maine Homestead.

It's a lot of work, sure, but dreams worth having usually are!! 🍇

Here's to the first 30 vines! And the many more to come over the next few years 🙌🏻

Even before we started our homesteading journey, we made the decision to swap out conventional store-bought products for homemade alternatives that we could trust 💫

Our goal then, and still to this day, is to live a low-toxin lifestyle and be intentional about what we bring into our home and use on a daily basis 🏡

As our homestead grew, so did our passion for sharing these life-changing products with others! What started as a very personal journey quickly became a mission of ours to help other families make healthier choices too 🍃💧

This review for our tooth powder left on our website this morning is a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. Knowing that our products are making a real difference in the lives of others means more to us than words can express! 🥹

Thank you for being part of this journey with us! 🙏🏻❤️

There’s nothing like chasing escapee pigs through the woods back to their pen at 8am on a hot, humid Sunday morning 🥵🤣

We can laugh about it now that everyone’s back where they belong, but it sure wasn’t funny when they were headed toward our garden 🥲

Thankfully no pigs, plants, or people were harmed in this morning’s adventure. Now to enjoy the remainder of our day of rest! ⛅️

Today was a wonderful start to the summer festival season! ☀️

Thank you to everyone who came out to support us. We loved seeing so many familiar faces and meeting new ones throughout the day ❤️

And WOW, you completely sold us out of our new bug spray!! We're already planning on making more soon and will be restocking in the coming weeks. As soon as it's ready, we'll have it available on our website for shipping.

Thank you again for an amazing day and for supporting our small family business, it truly means a lot to us. We can't wait to see you at the next festival in Greenville July 4th weekend! 🎆

❤️‍🩹✨Skin Repair Healing Salve✨❤️‍🩹

This is another product we've spent a lot of time developing, testing, and using ourselves here on the homestead.

It’s a great all-purpose aid for cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and bug bites.

We're excited to finally add it to our product line, and even more excited for people to see and sample it in person tomorrow!

Preparations for the Whoopie Pie Festival are really ramping up around here! 😱

This stage is not glamorous by any means. It's mostly lists upon lists, making sure we have enough inventory, labeling products, packing products for safe transport, and trying to make sure nothing gets forgotten on event day 😅

Though it’s not glamorous, it is one of our favorite parts just before an event. There's something exciting about watching everything come together after all of the planning, creating, and preparing.

✔ Half pig – $5/lb hanging weight
✔ Whole pig – $4.25/lb hanging weight
✔ Cut to your specifications
✔ Customer pays butcher fees

There's nothing quite like knowing where your food comes from and who raised it.

Introducing our new…

🦟✨Bug Barrier Natural Bug Spray✨🦟

This has been in the works for quite some time, and has already become something we reach for regularly while working outside around the homestead.

Whether we're gardening, tending the animals, or enjoying an evening outside and grilling, it's been getting PLENTY of use lately!

We'll have it available for the very first time at the Whoopie Pie Festival this Saturday, and we're excited to finally share it with everyone! 😁
