This week, someone stole the Austin Graves for Cowley County Commissioner – District 1 signs that were displayed in front of our liquor store and shop.

The signs have been replaced. This time, they are positioned where they are clearly visible on our security cameras.

If these signs are removed or stolen again, we will identify those responsible and pursue theft charges to the fullest extent of the law.

Political differences are part of our democracy, but stealing or vandalizing campaign signs is not. Please respect private property and allow everyone the opportunity to support the candidates of their choice.

With another round of severe weather bearing down on the Flint Hills, I thought I’d share a preview of a song I’ve been working on.

It’s called “TEN DAYS.”

The song isn’t finished yet…

But, As farmers and ranchers, we spend our lives watching the sky. Markets, droughts, floods, wildfires, tornadoes—there’s always another storm on the horizon. Some storms you can prepare for. Some you just have to ride out.

After taking direct hits from tornadoes in both 2023 and 2024, those weather forecasts hit a little different around here.

The Flint Hills have a way of reminding you who’s really in charge. The prairie was here long before us, and it’ll be here long after we’re gone.

Stay safe tonight, keep an eye on the weather, and remember there are some things we can control—and some things we can’t.

For thousands of years, fire has shaped the Flint Hills.

Long before fences, highways, and towns, Native Americans used fire to renew the tallgrass prairie, bringing fresh grass and attracting the buffalo. Today, ranchers still carry on that tradition every spring, using prescribed fire to protect one of the last remaining tallgrass prairies on Earth.

That history, that smoke, and those orange horizons inspired my new single:
