The North Twenty-

Robert and Sir Honey Bun (who goes on all walks with us) surveying the acreage we will be using next year to hopefully run 1,200 Chickens.

Our neighbor has been helping maintain this ground by planting alfalfa, which has helped mitigate runoff and aid water retention. He then uses the alfalfa for his sheep. We love a symbiotic relationship.

Chickens however, don't do well on alfalfa, it's tall and brambly. We had to mentally go down many avenues to find the best way to move this pasture back to native grasses without using herbicides or pesticides.
💚🌾💚

We have ended up on discing to cut the Taproot system of the alfalfa and then overseeding with grasses to suppress the alfalfa.

So even though there are no chickens on pasture here now, we are always thinking about chickens on pasture for next season!

We are DONE raising chickens 😳😳😳

But have no fear, this happens every year!

Even though we will have no more chickens in the brooder or on pasture this season, our freezers are stocked and awaiting your orders.

Because we work in alignment with Mother Nature as the weather turns cold we halt our production until spring comes again.

Deliveries are still happening, bi-weekly through the fall, and monthly as we head into winter

So we are still here, you'll just be seeing a little less of us through the winter.

Sir Honey Bun was just Honey Bun until we took him for a vet visit and scheduling of a spade appointment and they informed us he didn't need that 😅😅😅

✨ STORAGE TOMATOES ✨

These are thicker skinned, less juicy tomatoes that are made to hang in a cool, dry place and last you through the winter until the next growing season

Very happy to keep some summer color in the kitchen this winter
