To all my goat family, the next to the last paragraph hit me hard. ❤️
So on the 8th day, God looked at his creation and said, “Oof, I’m going to need help with this lot.”
I need someone to feed them- to give them cheeses, meat, yogurt, and milk for their babies. I need it to eat inedible foods like leaves, brush, and brambles. I need it to follow them to all the ends of the earth to keep them fed and healthy in ways they can’t do for themselves. So God made a Goat.
I need someone to clothe them- to grow a soft luxurious coat to make yarns and felts to clothe and warm them. A long strong mohair for ropes, cinches, and blankets. In the end to make a quality leather to protect them from the harsh elements. So God made a Goat.
I need someone to help them travel- to climb mountains and cross oceans. To carry packs and pull carts. To work in gardens, to explore the wildness, to pack out game. Someone nimble, agile, and strong. So God made a Goat.
I need someone to stand up to them- to teach them that kindness, softness, and patience are what is met with reward. To teach them humility by eating a rosebush, kidding nothing but bucks, or suddenly dying when least expected. To teach them to come together in adversity, and the powerful safety in community. So God made a Goat.
And above all I need someone to make them laugh- to bring them joy. To greet them with a chorus of cheer and dances of delight so they will always feel wanted and loved. To comfort them when they’re sad, to teach them the peace in sunbathing with a full belly, and to show them the pure bliss in new life. To model strong family, peacefulness, contentment; and how to dance with glee just because the sun is shining. So God made a Goat.
