We are excited to share that Twisted Pickins now has a store front inside Happy Rock Farm! If you love vintage vibes, restored treasures, and furniture with a past... you gotta come check them out. 🤎 And why not stop by on Saturday when they are handing out FREE coffee and mini caramel rolls to customers!
We are also open for farm tours that day as well. 🧑‍🌾

🌾 SCARECROW SHOWDOWN — BETTER INSTRUCTIONS! 🌾

We owe everyone a little apology! ❤️ We realized our original instructions for the Happy Rock Scarecrow Showdown weren't as clear as they should have been. Sorry for the confusion!

So here are the better, simpler instructions: 👇

🎃 STEP 1 — CREATE YOUR SCARECROW
Build your scarecrow at home, at your business, with your family, classroom, club or organization.

🚗 STEP 2 — BRING IT TO HAPPY ROCK FARM
Bring your completed scarecrow to Happy Rock Farm anytime between Wednesday, Oct 7th - Friday, Oct 9th.

🌾 STEP 3 — SET IT UP AT THE FARM
When you bring it, you will assemble and secure your scarecrow in its designated display spot at Happy Rock.

🏆 STEP 4 — WE SHOW IT OFF!
On October 10th, festival visitors will walk through our Scarecrow Showdown, check out all the amazing creations and vote for their favorites!

You do NOT come on October 10th to build your scarecrow. Your scarecrow should already be created and set up at Happy Rock before the event.

Businesses — make one that represents your business!
Families — make it a family project!
Kids — let your imagination run wild!
Schools, churches, clubs and organizations — create one together!

❤️ Most importantly, have FUN with it! Every scarecrow entered helps support Happy Rock Animal Rescue.

🐴❤️ Something BIG is beginning at Happy Rock… ❤️🐐

We are incredibly excited to share the beginning of Happy Rock Farm Animal Rescue!

For a long time, Happy Rock has been a place filled with animals, people, laughter, learning, and a whole lot of love. Now we're taking the next step—creating a rescue dedicated to helping farm animals that have been neglected, abandoned, surrendered, or simply find themselves needing a safe place to land.

Our goal is to provide these animals with safety, proper care, rehabilitation, and ultimately the best future possible.

But starting an animal rescue takes more than a big heart. ❤️ It takes a village.

Right now, we're working on building the foundation that will allow us to safely say "YES" when an animal needs us.

🚧 Fencing, gates & livestock panels to create safe pens and pastures
🚚 A dependable livestock/horse trailer so we can transport animals in need
🌾 Hay, feed, minerals & bedding for the animals in our care
🏠 Shelters & quarantine areas for new arrivals
🩺 Veterinary & farrier care for animals needing rehabilitation
🪣 Feeders, water tanks, buckets, halters, leads and everyday farm supplies

There are so many ways to help.

You can make a financial donation, donate supplies or materials, sponsor fencing or feed, donate hay, offer professional services, connect us with businesses that may want to help—or simply SHARE this post.

Apparently we have our very own Charlotte’s Web situation happening at Happy Rock. 🕷️🕸️😂

I’m just waiting to walk in one morning and see “SOME PIG” written across the web. 🐷😂

Charlotte has clearly moved into the barn, and judging by the size of her construction project… she’s not paying rent, but she IS earning her keep! Hopefully she’s catching every fly in the county. 🙌

🚨🐴 DUNCAN’S GREAT ESCAPE! 🐴🚨

Duncan busted down the fence and went on a little adventure recently. Apparently, he had places to go and people to see. 😅

After a bit of excitement, we tracked him down and had to bail him out of jail. Thankfully, he’s back safe and sound at Happy Rock Farm! ❤️

Duncan: 1
Fence: 0
Adventure: successful
Jail time: completed ✅

Life at the farm is never boring! 🐴😂

🐴 Do we have the shortest horse in North Dakota?! 🐴

We did a little measuring today at Happy Rock, and our tiny equine comes in at a whopping… 28 INCHES TALL! 😲❤️ Lucy is a rescue who is approximately 16 years old!

That’s only 2 feet 4 inches of horse from the ground to the withers! 😂

Now we’re curious… could this be the shortest horse in North Dakota? We don’t know for sure, but we’d love to find out!

👉 If you know of a full-grown horse in ND that’s 28 inches or shorter, drop a picture and their height in the comments!

Until someone proves otherwise, we might just have ourselves a little North Dakota record holder. 🏆🐴

You have 1 last chance to go see Untamed Legacy: Wild Horses of Roosevelt's Badlands in Medora tonight. I recommend getting there at least 30 minutes early as the announcer gives out some really great information prior to the opening of the show. And if you really want a treat - I highly encourage you to go online and get the backstage pass to meet the horses and the performers before the show starts. It was awesome! I found this fly hack about 5 years ago on Pinterest. Thought I would share in hopes it helps someone else. 🪰
Wrap fly tape around a blue bucket. 🪣 Yes, it must be blue! The brighter the better. 💙 You will catch way more flies this way and you don't have to deal with those stinky fly bags. 👎
