We’ve got a surprise!
I haven’t talked about it much at all, but we added rabbits to the farm a few months back. On July 1st, we had our first litter! Red had 8 healthy kits! She really tested my patience the entire time but ended up having them on day 34. They are already starting to show their colors. Looks white a few white, 2 grey, and the rest red. We will be updating as they get older. If you are interested in reserving a rabbit, message us!

It’s hatch day! 🐣
We have a bunch of Pharaoh Coturnix quail hatching out! These guys popped out like popcorn in just an hour. More hatching now. If you’d like to get some for your homestead, message us! They make great meat birds and egg layers!

🐣Happy Hump Day!🐣
Let's talk about managing hatches.
Today I woke up to chirping in the incubator. This was odd to me, as I had nothing hatching on my calendar. I opened the incubator to see chicks! They were white, with feathered feet. Mind you, I don't have any white birds, and definitely none with feathered feet! So imagine my suprise when a fluff ball with feathered feet greeted me!
I won these eggs a while back. I must have forgotten to put on the calendar the date I set them! I did candle them a few days back, but I don't remember seeing any that were that close to hatching.
This is just a reminder that sometimes life gets busy, and we lose track of important dates. Accidents happen, but we learn from them!
Has this ever happened to you?

Our incubators are ready for more eggs! Ignore the phone number, it isn't correct obviously lol. Your choice between a Hatching Time CT60 and a NR 360. The CT60 is great for eggs that incubate upright. The 360 is perfect for eggs that need to be rolled (specifically call ducks). Message me for details!

One thing that I will be focusing on today, in between the cleaning, is reading more about meat rabbit raising. I invested in breeding stock a month or so ago. I want to be as educated as possible before the first litters around June 24th. I'm keeping a close eye on the girls, watching to see if they're starting to pile hay for a nest. I bought baskets at Dollar Tree to use as nesting boxes. I've learned that wood isn't a great option like I thought. Wood is almost impossible to sanitize, so using it as a nest box can actually harbor bacteria that could be harmful to litters of young rabbits. So I'm going with a plastic nest box for now to see how it goes.

🌿 Sunday on the Farm 🌿

It might be Sunday, but rest will have to wait—today’s a slow and steady cleaning day here at the farm. I’m still hobbling a bit from the nail in my foot, so everything’s happening at half-speed... but happening all the same.

The buff ducklings are starting to hatch—tiny peeps filling the hatcher—and I’ve got another round of eggs ready for the incubator today. The quail hens are working overtime too; I’m gathering a ton of beautiful little eggs from them now.

Even when you have to take it slow, life on the farm keeps moving. 🦆🐥🪺

🌧️ Rainy Morning on the Farm 🌧️

It’s a quiet, rainy morning here at Ross Acres. Of course, the pump decided today was the day to quit on us—so no running water on the farm for now. Thankfully, the birds are all set with plenty of fresh water for the day. (A rain barrel would’ve been a smart project to finish sooner... lesson learned! 😉)

While the rain comes down, I’m taking the chance to keep learning—diving into a YouTube college course on genetics. Hoping this will help me make even better breeding decisions for the flock in the future.

What’s everyone else up to on this rainy day? Any farm projects or rainy day plans? Drop a comment below! 👇🐥🌿

Well, we had 2 broody ducks. Now we have three! The white muscovy hen has made a nest under a building. These girls are crazy thinking that I'm taking care of all these lil ones!
