LAST WEEK AT CACTUS CREEK:

Last week we spent a lot of time discussing physics.
We learned about the laws of motion, inertia, and friction through projects like pendulum painting, matchbox car racing, making marble mazes, racing balloons, making pinwheels, and studying inertia by performing the famous tablecloth trick with a twist- by making a tower and pulling paper out from between the blocks without knocking it over.

Practice their sign language verse with them:

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows he also will reap.” -Galatians 6:7

Quiz: ask your student who our timeline character was this week.
Answer: Isaac Newton
Bonus: Ask them about the power our words have to determine life and death.

THIS WEEK AT CACTUS CREEK:

Welcome back Cactus Creek! We are so excited to be back! Our character trait for this month is INQUISITIVENESS! After a long break we are encouraging the kids to ask questions and seek TRUTH!

They practiced asking questions as we learned about weather. This included a lot of experiments which intently held their attention!

As we moved onto bible, we talked about Noah. We practiced our sign language verse:
“The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.”
-Psalm 89:11

Quiz: ask your student who our timeline character was this week.
Answer: Benjamin Franklin!
Bonus: Our older students should be able to tell you about his life’s work.

Thank you for an amazing week!

Have you ever wondered what a “classroom” looks like at Cactus Creek?

Well here you go!

We want every spot to be a classroom, a place to learn, and a space for curiosity.

This is the classroom we all wanted as a kid! We are blessed to get to provide this learning environment for these young eager learners!

THIS WEEK AT CACTUS CREEK:

We learned about FRONTIERSMEN as our practical example of the importance of ATTENTIVENESS!

We started the week scouting out animal tracks, making a salve, bible time and reading tall tales around the fire.

We finished the week learning about cardinal directions and practiced using a compass! We reviewed gun safety and practiced shooting BB guns. We also continued learning bible and reading more tall tales!

Our sign language memory verse: “Be careful then how you walk not as unwise men, but as wise.” -Ephesians 5:15

THIS WEEK AT CACTUS CREEK:

As we continue to practice attentiveness, a lot of our breakout lessons focused around Native Americans. They were a group that were experts at being attentive! We had fun building one type of home they would live in, the famous teepee. We started the week working as a team attempting to build a life size teepee and ended the week making individual models. We practiced archery, bead making, and even tried to be attentive finding animal tracks on a hike!

Something fun we heard from a student this week: “This was the BEST creek time we have ever had!” This group of students turned creek time into a remarkable game of imagination. They “found an island” that they named Native Island. They used their rock money and made a crawdad petting zoo. It is amazing watching them flourish using their imagination.

THIS WEEK AT CACTUS CREEK:

This week at cactus creek we were excited to introduce our new character trait:

ATTENTIVENESS!

Our lessons perfectly allowed us to practice being attentive as we learned all about birds!

From listening to literature to hands on learning to birdwatching, the kids soaked it all in. They especially loved our guest duck and goose!

Our sign language to practice at home: “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them.” Matthew 6:26

THIS WEEK AT CACTUS CREEK:

This week was our last week focusing on COOPERATION! We learned all about the musculoskeletal system!

We started the week dissecting a cow bone, finding discoveries under the microscope, building a joint model, musculoskeletal puzzles and more. We finished the week crafting a vertebrae model, building an arm model, new puzzles, and learning the names of the bones.

After lunch, the kids participate in horsemanship, creek play, or other projects.

Right before pickup we end the day with a recap.

Our sign language to practice at home:
“Pleasant words are like honeycomb sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.” -Proverbs 16:24
