I pass four massive ground piles of grain sorghum everyday on the way to work. Do you know how disheartening and demoralizing that is for a farmer that is completing our best milo harvest in history??? We need China to buy milo, and we need to open up more markets!! If it wasn't for harvest, I would be in Washington DC this week with KS Sorghum. They had a meeting at the white house yesterday and left large copies of these photos behind behind as evidence of our struggles. Our administration needs to hold China to their commitments!

We are definitely blessed to be looking at good yields this fall. But we need policy makers to understand how our milo price has eroded and just how critical a Chinese trade agreement could be to KS farmers.

It was good to have the US Grains Council, KDA and KS Sorghum facilitate this tour. We need to make sure our policy makers understand how important this relationship is for farmers and for Western Kansas in general. Milo is critical for dry land farms and our economy.

Time to control our volunteer wheat!!

Proposed volunteer control windows across Kansas aim to reduce wheat streak mosaic risk. These windows span the 30 days before the optimal winter wheat planting date in each region. 🌾⁠
⁠
Here are key considerations for successful wheat-free windows:⁠
🟡Terminate all volunteer wheat so it’s completely dead before your regional window begins.⁠
🟡Delay fall wheat planting until the end of the window, if possible.⁠
🟡Avoid planting other winter cereals (like rye or triticale) during this time, as they can carry curl mites.⁠
🟡A regional break in the green bridge helps curl mites die off before wheat planting.⁠
🟡Volunteer wheat emerging after the window is less concerning, as it aligns with winter wheat establishment.⁠
🟡Community-wide coordination is essential for success.⁠
