Did you know?🧐 Not all flowers are good for bees!
For example, yellow jessamine (often referred to as yellow jasmine) is toxic to honey bees. Its nectar is deadly to larvae, pupae, and young workers!
It blooms all throughout the southeast and can severely weaken nearby colonies.
Yellow jessamine/jasmine is also poisonous to humans and other animals if ingested. Simply touching the fragrant blooms can cause skin irritation for some!
Yellow jasmine can also choke out other plants and is difficult to safely remove. Just spraying herbicides aren’t an option for beekeepers.
Perhaps alternative foraging options would be a good solution?
