Myth: Beef consumption leads to heart disease and obesity.

Fact: Beef contributes only five percent of total calories and ten percent or less of saturated fat and total fat to the American diet. In fact, half of the fatty acids in beef are monounsaturated, which is the same heart-healthy type of fat found in olive oil.

A myth we hear often is that U.S. agriculture, especially animal agriculture, is a major greenhouse gas contributor. The truth is this:

The U.S. ag and timber system is a net carbon sink. This means, collectively, the system removes more carbon than it emits PLUS some from others.

How did feedyards come about? In the 1800s, farmers began feeding grains to livestock and soon realized the increased value in grain finished beef. Around the 1950s, cattle feeding began to grow and centralize in the High Plains. Today, 28% of the nations fed cattle come from TCFA feedyards.
