Our goal at W

illows Bend Farm is to create an interactive experience within the gardening community. We will offer workshops, cooking classes, tomato tastings and other events as suggested by the community. We listen to our customers and special orders are welcome. Participation in the planning of next year's crop is encouraged. Accepting applications for internships for those wishing to accept knowledge, experience, plants and produce for working on the farm. One hour or many! Many of our perennials are dug from our property, others from trades with community members. We also special order perennials from wholesale nurseries. (these may not be organically grown before we get them). We encourage bartering plants for services and trading plants. We also can special order shrubs, trees and small fruits. All of the vegetable plants are started from seed and grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We are learning and applying the principals of permaculture and forest farming and would like to try aquaponic gardening as well. Our goal is to become as self-sustaining as possible.

UPDATE: WALK FOR PEACE

Hello Friends and Neighbors! I want to update you what we know for the Venerable Monk's Walk for Peace.

I am happy to report that we have collected the names of over 80 volunteers that want to help in some way to make the monk's journey smooth through Dinwiddie.

Obviously, Willows Bend Farm cannot accommodate the number of people that want to visit the monks during their lunch stop. I have conveyed this to Trang and we are in the process of securing suitable venues throughout their walk through Dinwiddie. It is hard to plan because there are so many moving parts, so-to-speak. We don't know the exact date and time. Our best bet at this moment is around the end of January. They have posted they expect to be in Richmond on the 1st of February. That is subject to change, of course. We must be patient and wait for updates as they get closer. Regardless of when they get here, Duck Adams has said that the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office will be ready when they give the word. So thanks for that.

Originally I was seeking volunteers to help with lunch. I got such a beautifully overwhelming response that I just completed a spreadsheet of names, contacts and how the volunteer prefers to participate. Barbara Pittman drove through Route 1 and noted good places where people can gather on the side of the road to welcome the monks as they pass by. Some of those volunteers will be stationed along the route to pass out flowers, etc.

What I really need now is a volunteer with experience coordinating the volunteers and being a contact to the Virginia Walk for Peace coordinator. I am ready to turn over the spreadsheet and anything else I have gathered. Willows Bend Farm staff will still participate in making some of the food and serving, but I personally, regrettably, won't be here in the state to greet the monks or take on the coordination. I am leaving the 25th of January and returning the 7th of February. While I will still be in contact, I won't be able to manage much from Maine! I do have a few volunteers who can help with smaller groups and assist the coordinator/contact person. But I need a group leader that can be the one contact person for Dinwiddie. Please let me know as soon as possible if you can take on this role, or know someone I should contact.
