Well… this is a first! 😂🐰💛

Everyone, meet Jupiter… our newest retired boarder and officially the first Palomino ever at Painted Oaks Retirement Boarding.

And can we just talk about his brand for a second? 🤣 I swear it looks just like the Pl***oy Bunny! I have a feeling that’s going to be the first thing everyone notices.

But on a more sentimental note… Jupiter already has a special place in my heart.

When I was 10 years old, I learned to ride on a Palomino. I can still remember falling in love with horses because of that beautiful golden coat and kind eye. It’s funny how life has a way of coming full circle.

Now, all these years later, this handsome 25-year-old gentleman arrives at our farm. Somehow it feels like perfect timing… almost as if he was meant to be here.

Welcome home, Jupiter. We promise your retirement will be filled with green pastures, good friends, plenty of treats… and we’ll try not to tease you too much about that bunny tattoo. 😉💛🐴

Well, this is a first.

In all the years we’ve been boarding horses, we’ve never had to feed hay in June.

Unfortunately, the drought conditions across Virginia have left many pastures struggling, and ours are no exception. While we’d much rather see the horses grazing on lush green grass this time of year, Mother Nature had other plans.

So for now, the hay feeders are back out, and we’re doing what responsible horse owners do—adjusting and making sure every horse stays healthy, well-fed, and in good condition. Their welfare will always come first, even when it means dipping into winter hay supplies months earlier than expected.

We’re keeping a close eye on pasture conditions and hoping for some much-needed rain soon. Until then, these spoiled horses will continue enjoying their summer hay buffet. 🌾🐴

There’s just something about turning horses out into a fresh pasture that never gets old. ❤️

Watch these four kick up their heels and enjoy a little freedom. And if you look closely at the very end, Layla (the black horse) seems to flash Dennis a big smile. 😆

We like to think that’s her way of saying, “Thanks for the good life!”

Horse farm life during a drought = changing fields, changing routines, and a whole lot of chaos 🤪🐎

We had to move some of the herd around this week to help protect pastures and stretch what grass we do have left. The horses, of course, responded with full-speed opinions about the whole situation 😂

As stressful as drought management can be, there’s still something beautiful about watching a happy horse run flat out across a field. Pure freedom, flying mane, thunderous hooves… and just a little farm-induced madness.

There’s something about afternoons like this that never gets old…

Wide open fields, the quiet rhythm of horses grazing, and just enough bluegrass music in the background to remind you why this life feels so good.

This is what we love most about our farm - peaceful space, happy horses, and a place where they can simply be horses.

Just in time for Valentines Day - Love is in the air at the farm 💕🐴

While Opal was getting her spa day (aka hoof trim), Liam kindly volunteered for the very important job of holding her rope — and keeping a close eye on his girl. True gentleman behavior right there.

These two are our resident love birds… always side by side, always looking out for each other, and reminding us daily that barn life is full of the sweetest little moments.

Just another day at the farm where care, trust, and a little romance go hand in hoof. 🐎💕

2026 is the Year of the Horse 🐎

And honestly… that feels just right.
So thankful for our herd, our land, and especially for the clients who trust us to care for their horses every day. We’re grateful to do what we love—giving horses the space to move, friends to run with, and the thoughtful care they deserve.
