Highcountrygoatsgalore

Highcountrygoatsgalore We are a small goat farm in the mountains of Colorado. We raise dairy, and meat goats as well as farm fresh eggs from cage free hens.

Stay tuned for upcoming website. Our family began High Country Goats Galore in April 2004 when we moved to our new home in the mountains of Teller Country and our oldest son decided he wanted to show dairy goats at the Teller County Fair. So we bought two little Alpine doelings and our adventure began. As time passed our son also decide he wanted to also try showing market goats and our operation

expanded to include market goats. We started out with having to send our does to an outside breeder then sell the babies but we really got started when we purchased a South African Boer Buck and a Nubian Buck in 2006 and 2007 respectively and began breeding our own goats. At present we have Augustus Mcrea and Billy Jack Standing at stud and with our five does we presently produce an average of five to ten kids a year. We also lease goats to homeowners for land clearing purposes as well as breed, sell and provide milk for sale for use with orphan animals. We are hoping in the future to be able to make and sell cheese and soaps made with our goat milk. At present we do not sell our milk for human consumption due to our inability to pasturize. Our operation is small (only about 5 acres) and we are always trying to make it more user friendly but we enjoy our adventures. Visitors are always welcome to come for a visit just call to set up a time.

Sorry for the late post but back this spring General Sterling Price became the happy sire of Aphrodite and Chadwick. (Aphrodite is the white one Chadwick the black).
Aphrodite was extremely small and we were worried she would not make it but she is doing tremendously, although she is still very small and not growing as fast as she should. Chadwick was our monster boy, walking within 15 min of birth but then about 4 months later tragedy struck and we lost him. Not sure what happened. One day fine the next not.But that is the way it goes sometimes. Excited to see what turns up next Spring.

We here at High Country Goats Galore are happy to announce the arrival of our new buck General Sterling Price.
He was born on March 7, 2020 and was delivered to our farm from the breeder on May 15th. He has a lot of growing to do but we are excited to see what kind of babies he sires.

Well I think Spring might actually be here. Taking advantage of the nice weather to get things cleaned up. Want to get barn cleaned out hopefully real soon and do some refencing. Hoping to get a new buck this year so I can start getting babies on the ground again. Also hoping to get new chickens and get those eggs going again.

Well another winter is coming to an end (slowly)ready for warmer weather.
Hoping to get barn door done soon so it makes it easier to clean the barn and goat yard without curious goats nibbling on my pants.

Sorry Folks for the long pause In updates but it has been a long several months. Augustus McCrea died in December of 2017, 4 of my does mysteriously died back in November 2018. (Think they got run to death by the escaped wolf.) So I'm working on locating a new buck so I can start breeding again. New fences being put up this summer (I hope). New Buck house and pen, new chicken pen. So alot will be going on once the snow melts.

Has been a hard spring. Five of our ten babies did not make it. All five were from first time mothers whom seemed to wonder where in the heck did that screaming wet thing come from. We will try again when we breed later in the spring or early summer. The other five of our babies did really well but two of our triplets just out of the blue were found dead. We are thinking the got squashed so we ended up with three survivors. One boy and two girls and they are doing tremendous. That us the thing with breeding. Some years are good some aren't and you just try again. It didn't help that I had had hand surgery and still have one more hand to go. Hopefully by this time next year my hands will be well and somewhat strong again and we will have a much better year.

I think there was something in the water here at goats galore. We have had 7 babies in the last two days. The last two were just born minutes ago. I've always wondered why can't they have them in the daytime when it's warmer? Mariah had our first set of triplets on March 2nd, Baby had twins the same day but unfortunately they were still born and KC just gave birth to twins. Gonna busy around here for the next several days. The nursery is FULL!!!!!

The calendar says its Spring. Hmmm. I think not. My goats are going crazy with the weather changes. They start shedding their winter coats and BAM!!! We get three feet of snow. I don't usually gripe about any kind of precipitation but I am ready for the snow to go away for a few months. After spending the last part of winter and the first part of spring recovering from cancer surgery I am ready for everything to thaw so I can begin the annual Spring clean up and get new fences and barn up. I know my goats will be glad when everything is clean, dried out, and newly built.
